Almonty's Korean Tungsten Switch-On Sparks a Re-Rating as Analysts Push Targets Higher

The transition from developer to producer is rarely as clean as a single switch being flipped, but for Almonty Industries that moment arrived with the Sangdong mine in South Korea finally processing ore into tungsten concentrate. The market's response was immediate: shares jumped 9.53% in a single session, lifting the stock from roughly $13 to $15.09, with traders pointing to a structural re-rating rather than a short-term spike.
That reassessment has been building for weeks. The stock has climbed 159% over the past twelve months and 67% year-to-date, with chart watchers now eyeing resistance at $15.50 to $16.00 and a trading zone of $18 to $20 over the next six to twelve months.
A Quarter That Rewrites the Narrative
The production milestone landed alongside second-quarter 2026 results that underscore just how much has changed. Revenue surged 498% year-over-year to $43.0 million, up from $7.2 million in the prior-year period. Net income swung to $181.8 million from a loss of $58.2 million — though $173.1 million of that figure stems from a non-cash revaluation of derivatives, a detail that tempers the headline number.
The operational picture is cleaner. Adjusted EBITDA turned positive at $17.6 million, reversing a negative $4.8 million a year earlier. Mining operations generated $26.1 million in profit for the quarter, driven largely by record prices for ammonium paratungstate (APT), the key tungsten intermediate. The European average price reached roughly $3,075 per metric ton unit in Q2 2026, compared with just $453 in the same period last year. Gross margin now stands at 60.7% of revenue, and first-half operating cash flow came in at $31.6 million.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Almonty?
The balance sheet carries its own weight. The company ended the quarter with C$1.23 billion in cash, bolstered by a US$800 million convertible bond — a war chest that supports expansion beyond Korea, including the Gentung project in Montana and the existing Portuguese operations.
Analyst Conviction and a Growing Backdrop
D.A. Davidson has been among the most vocal supporters. The bank reiterated its buy rating and $33 price target after extending its offtake agreement, having raised its target from $25 to $33 just weeks earlier. Analyst Matt Summerville cited progress at Sangdong, a potential partnership with the US government, a solid balance sheet, and record tungsten prices following a virtual roadshow with CEO Lewis Black.
The strategic context adds weight to the story. Western nations are increasingly restricting access to Chinese tungsten, a metal considered critical for defense applications. Sangdong's position as one of the few tungsten sources outside China gives it geopolitical relevance that extends beyond the operational details.
Streamlining the Listing Structure
Amid the rally, Almonty is also simplifying its corporate structure. Trading in its Australian depositary interests will end on August 28, 2026, with the official delisting from the ASX following on September 1, 2026. The stock will continue trading on the Nasdaq under "ALM" and on the Frankfurt exchange under "ALI1." Management cites liquidity concentration — the bulk of daily volume now flows through the Nasdaq, while Toronto and Sydney have faded in significance.

The Valuation Question Lingers
For all the momentum, the stock's elevated multiple leaves little room for error. The balance sheet still shows negative profitability on a trailing basis, and the transition from story stock to operating producer hinges on execution metrics: ramp-up rates, unit costs, and the speed at which margins improve. Any disappointment on production or cost could hit the shares hard at current valuations.
The immediate mood, however, is decidedly bullish. A de-risked production milestone, an upgraded price target, and a leaner exchange footprint have kept investor interest elevated. The next test will be whether APT prices hold at record levels — and whether the operational ramp can turn those prices into durable profitability.
