AMD's Helios Rollout Stays on Schedule as Wall Street Rewrites Its Price Targets

AMD fell 0.9% to EUR 538.10 as AI-spending worries hit chip stocks, but Citigroup and Stifel raised targets ahead of Nov. 3 Q3 results.

Advanced Micro Devices finds itself navigating two competing currents: a near-term pullback tied to jitters over artificial-intelligence spending, and a steady drumbeat of bullish analyst revisions built on the company's longer-term capacity plans.

The stock slipped 0.9% on Monday to EUR 538.10, extending a soft patch that began Friday, when the shares shed 2.0% to close at EUR 542.70. That selloff rippled across the semiconductor space after reports surfaced that annualized revenue at OpenAI — regarded as a customer for AMD's graphics processors — had fallen short of earlier indications. Investors read the news as a possible brake on the pace of data-center buildouts, and the pressure spread to peers including Nvidia. Adding to the tech-sector headwinds, rising U.S. Treasury yields and firmer oil prices pushed rate concerns back to the foreground.

Even after the retreat, AMD sits just 7.2% below its 52-week high of EUR 584.80, a level touched in early October. By Monday's close the gap had widened to 8.0%.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying AMD?

Capacity Commitments Take Shape

Chief executive Lisa Su used an Asia trip to reaffirm the company's long-range ambitions, stating that AMD intends to substantially expand chip shipments in 2027 to meet demand for AI solutions. Reuters reported that the company is lifting its Taiwan investments beyond the previously earmarked US$10 billion, though no new figure was disclosed. Su also said AMD continues to weigh partnership options with Samsung Electronics in both memory and foundry operations.

On the product front, Su confirmed that shipments of AMD's Helios AI platform began on schedule in the third business quarter of 2026, with volumes set to ramp quarter by quarter. The company also unveiled a prototype at Monday's OCP Global Summit that verifies supply-chain credentials using AMD EPYC processors. Separately, Su was honored last week with the National Medal of Science for her contributions to computer technology.

Analysts Move First

Wall Street wasted little time adjusting its models. On October 6, Citigroup's Atif Malik reiterated a Buy rating and lifted his target to $800 from $575, citing computing demand expected to be driven increasingly by AI agents. That same day, Ruben Roy of Stifel kept his Buy call and raised his target to $700 from $635.

Investors will get a clearer read on operating momentum in a few weeks. AMD has said it will report third-quarter 2026 results on November 3 after the U.S. market close — a report that will give the market its first chance to assess early revenue from the newly launched platforms.
