Amgen finds itself pulled in several directions at once. Fresh clinical readouts are strengthening the case for its immunology and oncology franchises, a federal regulator has taken issue with how one of its medicines is marketed, and at least one major bank is telling clients that impressive drug data does not automatically translate into a compelling entry point for the stock.

JPMorgan Stays on the Sidelines

JPMorgan reaffirmed its "Neutral" rating and a $350 price target on the biotech on Monday, drawing an explicit line between the commercial promise of its cancer drug Imdelltra and the appeal of the equity itself. The analysts see peak sales potential of $5 billion for Imdelltra and called the first-line maintenance data presented at the ESMO conference over the weekend "impressive," noting the results could support use in earlier lines of treatment.

That caution is not a verdict against the drug. Rather, the bank separates the medicine's medical and economic potential from the question of whether now is an attractive moment to buy. The distinction carries weight after a 44% run-up in Amgen shares since the start of the year, against which the neutral stance reads as a measured counterpoint to the stock's strong performance.

The clinical foundation for the optimism comes from the DeLLphi-305 trial, whose positive results Amgen released on Saturday. In extensive-stage small cell lung cancer, Imdelltra combined with Imfinzi cut the risk of death by 58%, with median overall survival reaching 21.1 months. For the investment case, the potential move into earlier treatment lines matters most — precisely where JPMorgan sees the new findings providing support. The $5 billion figure remains the bank's estimate, not revenue already booked, so the trial success and its possible commercial significance have to be judged separately.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Amgen?

A Regulatory Rebuke on Advertising

Running alongside the clinical progress is criticism of how Amgen promotes one of its medicines. The FDA faulted a promotional spot for conveying a misleading impression of the product's safety and efficacy. For investors, the picture stays two-sided: positive trial results offer fresh footholds, while the advertising rebuke forms a separate regulatory burden.

Immunology Data in Focus

Amgen is also steering attention toward further clinical milestones in autoimmune disease, with upcoming congress presentations and the planned completion of another study now central for shareholders. The results show improvements over placebo, though the differing effect of the dosing intervals studied deserves attention.

At week 48, disease activity measured by the ESSDAI score improved more under both doses tested than under placebo, comparing change from baseline — so the additional effect versus the control group matters as much as the absolute improvement. ESSDAI fell by 5.6 and 5.2 points in the two treatment arms, against a 3.8-point decline on placebo, and both comparisons were statistically significant. For the more frequently administered dose, Amgen also reported improvements in dryness, adding a further effect on symptoms to the disease-activity finding. On the ESSPRI dryness measure, the change under that dose was ?2.50 versus ?1.33 for placebo, with Amgen putting the associated p-value below 0.001. The secondary DASPRI dryness measure also favored treatment. Side effects occurred at similar rates, according to the company, so the efficacy data sit alongside a safety comparison that showed no higher overall rate of adverse events.

What Comes Next

The follow-up OASIZ-303 study is slated for completion in the fourth quarter of 2026 — a planning target rather than a reported result. The congress agenda extends beyond dazodalibep: Amgen announced long-term data for UPLIZNA in IgG4-related disease as well as real-world evidence for KRYSTEXXA and TAVNEOS, putting longer-term treatment experience on the schedule alongside the new trial findings.

Then there is the quarterly scorecard. Amgen is due to report third-quarter 2026 results after the market close on November 3, a date that quickly follows the clinical news and returns attention to operating performance. Analysts expect earnings of $5.79 per share on revenue of $10.08 billion, while Amgen's own full-year 2026 profit guidance stands at $22.30–23.50 per share. The report must shore up a different part of the investment case than the cancer trial does — current business momentum. Until then, JPMorgan's verdict remains clearly split: convincing drug data, but no buy recommendation on the stock.
