The rare earth exploration space rarely rewards patience, and Apex Critical Metals is proving that point in spades. The company's shares have shed more than half their value since the start of the year, yet the operational picture emerging from its Nebraska flagship paints a decidedly different story — one of expanding mineralization, fresh institutional backing, and a leadership team repositioning for what management hopes will be a pivotal 2027.

Trinity Zone Grows Westward

The most recent drill results, released Wednesday, delivered a clear extension of the Trinity Zone at the Rift project. Hole RIFT26-012 returned 151.4 metres at 2.42% rare earth oxides (REO), including a higher-grade interval of 61.4 metres at 3.03% REO. Nearby, hole RIFT26-014 intersected 148.5 metres at 2.09% REO, with a 10.2-metre section grading 5.27% total rare earth oxides (TREO) starting at 178.6 metres downhole.

Those intercepts push the known mineralization roughly 100 metres further west and confirm continuity to the south. The Trinity Zone now spans approximately 400 metres of strike length and 200 metres of dip, with the system remaining open in all directions — a detail that leaves considerable room for additional expansion as the drill bit keeps turning.

Earlier work at the project, including hole RIFT26-002, had returned neodymium-praseodymium (NdPr) ratios as high as 49% of total rare earth oxide content. The latest intervals show a more modest NdPr share of roughly 10% to 20%, underscoring that metallurgical testing will be central to determining how economically the valuable magnet metals can be separated from the broader REO basket.

Infrastructure Edge in the Cornhusker State

What sets Rift apart from many rare earth projects is its location. The property sits on private land with direct access to paved roads, rail links and low-cost power — infrastructure advantages that could meaningfully reduce development expenditures compared with remote Canadian or Australian deposits. That logistical head start, combined with the geological results, forms the basis for the company's next major milestone: a maiden mineral resource estimate (MRE) targeted for the first quarter of 2027.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Apex Critical Metals?

That timeline depends on completing the current campaign. Of the 32 drill holes planned for 2026, assay results are still pending for 18. Once all data from the 21,000-metre program is in hand, Apex intends to move straight into resource modeling and, eventually, preliminary economic studies.

Boardroom Addition and Capital Infusion

Apex has also been busy on the governance front. Last Wednesday, the company appointed Trevor Hall to its board of directors with immediate effect. Hall currently serves as CEO of the Clear Commodity Network, bringing commodities-sector experience to an exploration team that is increasingly focused on bridging the gap between geology and market development.

The appointment lands as the company works through a period of significant financial repositioning. In early June, Apex reported the receipt of roughly C$15 million after upsizing a financing offer in response to demand. That was followed by expectations of an additional approximately US$2.4 million in funding by the end of June. The company also filed its fiscal third-quarter results for the period ending April 30, 2026, around the same time.

These capital raises are earmarked for the expanded drilling programs and broader corporate growth. They also arrive alongside a notable listing milestone: in July, Apex's common shares began trading on Euronext Access Paris under the ticker MLAPX, a move designed to boost visibility and liquidity among European investors.

Market Reality Check

The share price, however, tells a more sobering tale. The stock slipped 11% on Thursday to €0.69, extending a slide that has left the equity down roughly 53% year-to-date. That drawdown stands in contrast to the operational momentum — a disconnect that reflects the broader volatility gripping the junior mining sector rather than any single company-specific setback.

At its most recent close of €0.7750, the stock sat approximately 75% below its 52-week high reached in October of last year. Market capitalization is currently estimated at between C$121.5 million and C$123 million.

For investors, the near-term catalysts are clear: the pending assay results from the remaining 18 holes, followed by the resource estimate that could reset the conversation around Rift's value. Whether the market chooses to reward those milestones remains an open question — but the geological evidence accumulating in Nebraska is becoming harder to ignore.
