Arafura Rare Earths Ties Up 850-Tonne NdPr Offtake as Nolans Build Enters Earthworks Phase
Published on 10/19/2026 at 16:22 | Editorial boerse-global.deArafura Rare Earths has locked in the commercial side of its Nolans venture even as the physical build runs years behind the first revenue cheque. The Australian rare earths developer has signed a binding five-year supply agreement with Traxys North America covering neodymium-praseodymium oxide (NdPr oxide) and associated heavy rare earths, according to media reports. The contract includes an option for both parties to extend by a further two years by mutual consent.
The deal anchors part of Nolans' planned output to a North American trading partner, giving the project a defined marketing structure well before the processing plant is ready to run. Volumes ramp up over the contract term, reaching 850 tonnes per year once full production capacity is achieved — a step up from the 500 tonnes envisaged in the May term sheet.
Government Backing and Site Works Advance
On the ground in the Northern Territory, the official groundbreaking has moved Nolans from the planning stage into execution. Site access preparations had already begun in September, and the company has scheduled the heavier earthworks for the December quarter — the technical groundwork on which later plant construction will sit.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Arafura Rare Earths?
The Australian government has confirmed support totalling A$1.2 billion across various funding facilities, a financial backstop that underpins the capital-intensive build. First commercial production is targeted for 2029, which leaves a multi-year stretch of upfront spending before any operating income from rare earth sales begins to flow.
Pricing under the Traxys contract is tied to an independent global seaborne transport index, keeping remuneration linked to international rare earth price movements rather than fixed at a set level.
Share Price Still Deep in the Red
Market sentiment has yet to reflect the twin milestones of contracted offtake and shovels in the ground. The stock changed hands at EUR 0.0940, down 38% since the start of the year and 68% over twelve months. A 6.0% gain last Friday — closing at EUR 0.0937, with no separate corporate announcement behind the move — lifted the shares 12% above their 52-week low, a modest counter-move after earlier losses.
For management, the priorities are now clear: deliver the earthworks on schedule and execute the existing offtake arrangements reliably. The combination of state funding support and firmly contracted volumes is meant to contain the execution risk of the capital-hungry project ahead of the next construction phases.
