ASML's October 14 Print Will Test Whether Analyst Optimism Holds Up

ASML has set the date investors have been circling: third-quarter 2026 results land on October 14 at 07:00 CET, with management hosting a call at 15:00 CET the same day. Until those figures cross the wire, the market is left sorting through two competing narratives — a sector-wide retreat in AI-linked chip names and a pair of raised price targets that point the other way.
The distinction matters more than the headline moves suggest. A softer market valuation does not, on its own, signal that business expectations have soured. At ASML, the recent analyst activity runs in the opposite direction — though higher targets rest on assumptions whose economic payoff has yet to be confirmed in reported results.
Two Banks, Two Higher Targets
Bank of America Securities lifted its price target to EUR 2,557 from EUR 2,452 on October 6, with analyst Didier Scemama keeping his buy rating intact. His reasoning goes beyond broad chip-sector optimism: he models higher selling prices alongside larger system volumes, while simultaneously factoring in rising procurement costs that could erode part of that upside. The key question, then, is not simply whether ASML moves more machines, but how much earnings contribution survives after those higher costs are absorbed.
Barclays followed on the same day, raising its target to EUR 2,450 from EUR 2,400. Analyst Simon Coles reaffirmed an overweight rating on the stock.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying ASML Holding?
Both houses have now marked up their goals. That is no guarantee prices will follow. What the moves do illustrate is the gap between more optimistic valuation assumptions and a trading environment in which investors have been offloading AI-related chip stocks. The analyst actions offer no confirmation of any company-specific deterioration.
Buybacks: Confirmed Action, Open Questions
Separately from the upcoming report, ASML disclosed transactions under its ongoing share repurchase program: 280,000 shares bought back last week for a total of EUR 456,280,531.
The buybacks demonstrate the program is being executed, but they do not answer questions about operating performance — nor do they clearly explain the recent share price move. They also neither confirm an improvement in the underlying business nor dispel the sector-wide selling pressure that has been reported. For now, their significance lies in the continuation of an existing program.
ASML Holding at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
What the Report Must Settle
The upcoming Q3 2026 release remains the key test for the higher price and volume assumptions. Higher analyst estimates are not proof that ASML has already achieved those prices or shipment levels — the numbers have not yet been published.
Investors would do well to keep the recent share price weakness and the raised analyst targets in separate columns until then. The pullback has been attributed to the industry backdrop; the higher targets hinge on specific business expectations. Whether ASML can back those expectations with its actual results is the question October 14 will answer.
