BASF has raised its full-year 2026 guidance for EBITDA before special items, lifting the range to EUR 7.4 billion to EUR 7.8 billion from an earlier forecast of EUR 6.9 billion to EUR 7.7 billion. The upgrade, announced roughly a week ago, came alongside third-quarter figures that showed revenue climbing 14% year on year to EUR 16.4 billion, with EBITDA before special items up 15% at EUR 1.6 billion.

Investors will get a fuller hearing on the new targets at the company's Capital Markets Day on 23 November, the next confirmed date on BASF's corporate calendar. Results for the fourth quarter of 2026 are scheduled for release on 26 February 2027.

Buyback Rolls On

The chemicals group also pressed ahead with its share repurchase programme. In a Monday disclosure, BASF reported buying back 355,128 of its own shares over the period from 26 to 30 October inclusive. Since the programme began on 3 August, a total of 7,595,230 shares had been acquired through 30 October.

Award for Toyota Truck Bed

On the innovation front, BASF, Toyota and Vuteq picked up the SPE Automotive Innovation Grand Award for a jointly developed injection-moulded thermoplastic truck-bed liner. The component features in the 2026 Toyota Tacoma, and the project also took top honours in the body-exterior category.

Evonik Stands Firm

Meanwhile, BASF's takeover approach for Evonik continues to meet resistance. Interim chief executive Claus Rettig, speaking to dpa, reiterated the company's rejection and stressed Evonik's independence. Evonik turned down BASF's offer — raised to EUR 24 per share — just over a week ago, stating it would not enter negotiations on the basis of the information available.

Separately, ALTA Performance Materials has signed an acquisition agreement with BASF covering the German group's Palatal business in Chile, including the ConcĂłn production site. The deal is subject to customary conditions, among them regulatory approvals; ALTA did not disclose a purchase price.

Shares Caught in Tech-Led Retreat

The stock came under pressure in Tuesday trading, shedding 3.0% as a global selloff in AI and semiconductor names spilled over into German equities. Reuters attributed the broader market weakness to jitters over tighter AI regulation following the US election outcome, with the DAX — of which BASF is a member — also dragged lower. Media reports added that concerns about US interest rates, stoked by stronger-than-expected US labour market data, weighed on sentiment as well.
