Bayer will use this autumn's AHA Scientific Sessions to put its cardiovascular, renal and stroke portfolio under the microscope, with a late-breaking analysis of Asundexian drawn from the OCEANIC-STROKE study among the headline presentations. The meeting runs from 6 to 9 November 2026, and the company intends to pair the stroke data with fresh findings on its heart and kidney medicines.

The timing is pointed. Asundexian has only just cleared its first regulatory hurdle, winning approval from China's NMPA on 26 October under the brand name Sunharbo. The green light covers reduction of stroke risk following a non-cardioembolic ischaemic stroke or a high-risk TIA, and according to Bayer the drug is the first factor XIa inhibitor to be cleared in China.

A Second Chinese Approval, This Time in Oncology

Two days later, Bayer picked up another Chinese approval — Sevabertinib, cleared on Wednesday as a first-line treatment for adults with HER2-mutant non-small cell lung cancer. The indication spans unresectable, locally advanced and metastatic disease, and rests on results from the ongoing Phase I/II SOHO-01 trial.

The two approvals sit alongside progress elsewhere in the pipeline. On 24 October Bayer reported a positive interim analysis from the Phase III DASL-HiCaP study, in which the combination of Darolutamid, androgen deprivation therapy and radiotherapy cut the risk of metastasis or death by 58% versus placebo in prostate cancer patients at high risk of recurrence.

Pharma Offsets a Soft Agricultural Quarter

Tuesday's quarterly figures made the case for the pharmaceutical division's growing weight. New medicines more than compensated for weakness in the agricultural business and underpinned an upgrade to guidance, Reuters reported. Group EBITDA before special items reached EUR 1.615 billion in the third quarter of 2026, a rise of 6.9%, while Crop Science revenues declined in what is a seasonally weak period.

Top-line sales came in at EUR 10.053 billion, up 4.1% in nominal terms and 1.9% after adjusting for currency and portfolio effects. The picture darkened further down the income statement: adjusted earnings per share fell to EUR 0.31, and the group posted a net loss of EUR 672 million.

Anderson Rules Out a Break-Up

Chief executive Bill Anderson used Tuesday to set out where the company's attention lies. Speaking to media, he said a split of the group is not currently on the agenda; Bayer is focused instead on innovation and reducing its debt load.

There was also a legal reprieve. Monsanto, the group's agricultural subsidiary, said on 30 October that it had won the Aretino case before a Missouri court by a unanimous verdict. The decision covered claims of alleged product defects, intentional misrepresentation and negligence.
