Bayer shares gain 2.2% to EUR 43.88 as investors weigh a $2.2 billion Ohio expansion, FDA filing acceptance for finerenone and Q3 results due November 3.

Bayer shares changed hands at EUR 43.88 on the day, a gain of 2.2%, as investors shifted their attention toward the company's pharmaceutical operations. No single confirmed catalyst has been identified for the move, and a direct link to the recent US regulatory milestones is not regarded as established. A second reading of the price put the stock at EUR 43.90, also up 2.2%.

A $2.2 Billion Commitment in Ohio

The group is pressing ahead with an expansion of its production footprint. On October 2, Bayer announced a USD 2.2 billion investment in a new site in New Albany, Ohio. According to company figures, roughly 600 new jobs will be created there. Active pharmaceutical ingredients are slated to be produced from 2031, with finished products following from 2034.

The plans are accompanied by a change at the top of the medical organization. A little over a week ago, Dr. Christoph Koenen took over as Chief Medical Officer, putting him in charge of the medical and scientific strategies of the pharmaceutical division.

Regulatory Momentum Builds Across the Pipeline

Progress has also been registered with the authorities. The FDA accepted the supplemental application for finerenone in chronic kidney disease without diabetes, opening the door to a possible additional indication — though the process is far from complete. The submission rests on the Phase 3 FIND-CKD trial, which enrolled 1,584 patients with non-diabetic kidney disease. The study found that adding finerenone to standard therapy significantly slowed the loss of kidney function and reduced cardiovascular-renal events. Acceptance of the filing does not amount to an approval, and no official target date for a final verdict has been set.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Bayer?

Earlier, on September 28, the US agency granted priority review for Lynkuet, a designation aimed at treating vasomotor symptoms in breast cancer patients undergoing endocrine therapy. Two days later, on September 30, BlueRock Therapeutics reported comparable special status for lemiretprocel at both the FDA and the EMA.

Should the US label expansion succeed, it would unlock considerable additional revenue. Kerendia is currently cleared in more than 100 countries, primarily for chronic kidney disease linked to type 2 diabetes. Widening the indication to patients without diabetes would enlarge the addressable market appreciably.

The Bull and Bear Cases Sit Side by Side

Analysts at JPMorgan rate the stock "Overweight" with a price target of EUR 61, underscoring confidence in the longer-term pipeline. The skeptical reading draws on the uncertainties that remain in the approval process and the long lead time before future earnings materialize. If the FDA demands extra data or writes a narrower target population into the label than hoped, the planned expansion would lose momentum. Large projects such as the Ohio plant also require substantial upfront spending whose financial returns can only be realized in the next decade.

Operationally, the second quarter of 2026 showed a recovery, with earnings per share of EUR 0.23 following a loss of EUR 0.20 in the prior-year period. Quarterly revenue, however, rose just 1.24% year over year to EUR 10.87 billion. Should operating growth slow while regulatory decisions remain pending, market skepticism could quickly return.

Chart Support and the November Print

For the stock's next move, the interplay between chart technique and quarterly reporting will matter. As long as the price defends its 200-day moving average of EUR 43.25, the medium-term recovery structure stays intact. A sustained break below that support line, by contrast, would risk extending the recent correction.

Bayer at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

The next tangible catalyst arrives with the third-quarter 2026 figures, scheduled for November 3, 2026. The release is planned for 07:30 CET, with an investor conference to follow at 14:00 CET. That day will show how strongly existing medicines are underpinning operating results while the FDA process continues in the background.

There has also been a shift in the shareholder base. Amundi crossed a reporting threshold on September 23 and now holds 2.90% of voting rights, down from the 3.04% disclosed in its previous notification.
