BMW's board chose Wednesday to widen and deepen its portfolio and structural overhaul, a decision that pushes the Automotive segment's reported EBIT margin for 2026 to a range of -0.5% to +0.5%. The group had previously guided to 1% to 3%. The non-operating hit lands in the fourth quarter and is expected to shave roughly 2.5 percentage points off the segment's full-year EBIT margin.

The announcement triggered a fresh round of broker revisions. Kepler Cheuvreux cut its price target to EUR 56 from EUR 58 and moved to "Reduce." ODDO BHF lowered its target to EUR 52 from EUR 55 while keeping a "Neutral" stance. Deutsche Bank Research trimmed its own target to EUR 66 from EUR 71 but stayed at "Buy," citing the lowered corporate targets as the trigger. The result is a sharply divided street: one outright sell-equivalent call, one neutral rating and one buy recommendation, all pointing in the same direction on valuation.

Deliveries Guidance Cut Again

Alongside the margin revision, BMW now expects a moderate decline in full-year automotive deliveries of 5% to just under 10%, a downgrade from its earlier forecast of a slight decrease. Reuters linked the second guidance cut in quick succession to accelerated restructuring measures and weaker demand in China. Free cash flow guidance, by contrast, was left untouched at more than EUR 2.5bn — a pledge that now stands out against the softer volume outlook.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying BMW?

S&P Global Ratings added pressure yesterday, lowering BMW and its rated subsidiaries to "A-/A-2" from "A/A-1" with a negative outlook. The senior unsecured bond rating moved to "A-" from "A."

Third-Quarter Baseline

The revised outlook came as BMW reported third-quarter 2026 group revenue of EUR 30,452m, down 5.8%, and pre-tax profit of EUR 2,083m, a decline of 10.6% that translates to a 6.8% pre-tax margin. The Automotive segment's EBIT margin for the quarter stood at 3.4%. Group net profit for the first nine months of 2026 came in at EUR 4,320m.

Away from the financials, BMW began series production of the eighth-generation 3 Series sedan at its Dingolfing plant on Tuesday. The model will roll out to markets in stages starting from the first quarter of 2027.
