Infineon Technologies has secured European Commission approval for EUR 319 million in state aid to modernise its semiconductor plant in Villach, Austria — a decision handed down on Thursday that underpins the company's broader EUR 1.1 billion investment plan for the site through 2034.

The Villach funding, granted under the European Chips Act, will support high-volume production of GaN power semiconductors on 300-millimeter wafers. Infineon flagged the investment roughly a week before the Commission's nod, with production slated to begin at the end of 2027.

Automotive Tie-Up With Qualcomm

On the automotive front, a technology agreement with Qualcomm Technologies provided a lift to Infineon shares, according to media reports. The two companies will jointly develop a microcontroller-based subsystem for Snapdragon Ride reference platforms in software-defined vehicles. Infineon's design is intended to complement the vehicle computer platform, with the company citing high-performance computing and in-vehicle artificial intelligence as target applications.

The Qualcomm news helped offset pressure from Intel's weak fourth-quarter 2026 guidance, which weighed on European chip stocks on Friday. Infineon was among the weakest DAX constituents, according to media reports — a decline triggered by Intel rather than by any fresh analyst action on Infineon itself. The stock had risen 0.2% to close at EUR 50.95 the previous day, recovering a daily gain after the Intel-driven setback.

GaN Switches for Enphase and NVIDIA

Infineon also announced on 26 October that it is supplying Enphase Energy with monolithic bidirectional GaN switches for solid-state transformer power modules. The components are rated for 900 volts and are used in applications including AI data centres. According to the company, they are the world's first devices of their kind.

Roughly two weeks earlier, Infineon unveiled a deeper collaboration with NVIDIA covering GaN-based power conversion systems for 800-volt direct-current architectures in AI data centres. Infineon's technology is to be deployed for high-voltage intermediate bus conversion.

Warstein Site and Start-Up Lab

A new office, development and laboratory building opened in Warstein on 28 October, with around 350 employees set to move in. The company said roughly 1,200 square metres of laboratory space are planned.

Infineon at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

On 22 October, Infineon joined forces with UnternehmerTUM Accelerator, Microsoft and NVIDIA to launch the Physical AI Growth Lab. The equity-free accelerator programme targets start-ups in physical AI, robotics and industrial AI, and is scheduled to run from January to April 2027.

Results and electronica on the Calendar

Investors now look to 10 November, when Infineon will publish results for the fourth quarter and the 2026 financial year, along with its outlook for the 2026/27 fiscal year. The electronica trade fair also opens in Munich that day, running until 13 November, with Infineon set to present solutions for artificial intelligence, robotics and mobility.
