More than a dozen members of the European Parliament urged the European Commission on Wednesday to carry out a security review of BYD vehicles, according to a Reuters report. The lawmakers pressed Brussels to assess potential safety risks posed by the cars and to consider possible restrictions — among them exclusion from public procurement tenders.

BYD pushed back on the data question, stating that vehicle data cannot be accessed remotely from China. The lawmakers' demand is addressed to the Commission, and any restrictions remain a matter for the review they have requested.

Investors shrugged off the political noise for now. On Friday the stock gained 1.7% to €8.54.

Driver-Assist Rumors Laid to Rest

The company also moved to quash speculation about its advanced driver-assistance lineup. On Wednesday, BYD denied media reports of a strategic shift, rejecting claims that it was discontinuing God's Eye C and assertions that the B and C systems would be migrated to a different assistance solution. Development of these systems stays in-house, BYD said, and software updates continue as before.

A day earlier, the automaker issued a warning about fraudulent recall notices circulating under its name, in which senders made false claims about warranties expiring. Official recall communications, BYD noted, are issued through authorized dealers.

On the partnership front, BYD and vivo signed a strategic cooperation agreement on AI-powered mobility yesterday, per media reports. The tie-up covers cross-device integration and the networking of smartphones with vehicles, pairing the two companies' device ecosystems with artificial intelligence in the mobility space.

Earnings Beat on Revenue, Miss on Profit

The numbers published on October 29 told a more complicated story. BYD's third-quarter 2026 net profit came in at RMB 10 billion, up 28% year on year, while revenue climbed 13.6% to RMB 221.5 billion. Broker estimates compiled by Reuters had ranged between RMB 11.4 billion and RMB 12.95 billion — a range the actual result failed to reach.

In its home market, the picture was tougher still. Domestic sales slipped roughly 12% during the quarter as competition intensified, Reuters reported.

October Volume Keeps the Export Engine Humming

Operationally, the sales machine kept rolling. October deliveries reached 490,168 vehicles, an 11% increase over the prior year. Exports accounted for 170,194 units, more than double the year-earlier level at a gain of 102.8%. Battery-electric passenger cars alone totaled 305,743.

On the product side, BYD has launched the second-generation Seal 07 in China, offered in five battery-electric and plug-in hybrid variants with indicative prices from RMB 139,900 to RMB 172,900.
