BYD has spent the past few days stacking up product announcements, and the next financial checkpoint is already in view: a board meeting on 29 October to review and approve unaudited results for the third quarter and the first nine months. That date matters because order books and model launches describe future business, while the upcoming figures will show how the completed period actually landed.

On the product side, the Chinese automaker opened orders on Monday for the second-generation Seal 07, taking reservations before the full pricing and specification details are published. Both the plug-in hybrid and the battery-electric versions are slated to carry the second generation of the Blade Battery, and both are earmarked for "Flash Charging" fast-charging technology. The higher-trim variants of the Seagull generation, introduced just over a week ago, already support Flash Charging.

The same day brought a second front: the Denza brand began pre-orders in China for the fully electric N8, with the market launch scheduled for November, according to media reports. Booking windows and deliveries remain distinct milestones — an open order book is not the same as vehicles reaching customers.

A day earlier, BYD had launched the third generation of its Qin Plus DM-i plug-in hybrid sedan in China at limited-time prices ranging from 76,900 yuan to 97,900 yuan. The company quotes a maximum electric range of 220 kilometres under the CLTC standard.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying BYD?

Beyond the showroom, BYD is broadening the offering around an existing model. On 21 October it announced a partnership with British accessory supplier Truckman covering approved accessories for the SHARK pickup in the UK, orderable through BYD dealers. Unlike the Chinese order starts, this is an add-on business rather than a new generation — and none of the announcements on their own allows a figure to be put on the extra earnings contribution.

Brazil: capacity applied for, not yet built

Reuters reported on Friday that BYD is seeking approvals for annual capacity of 600,000 vehicles at its Brazilian plant. Brazil manager Alexandre Baldy described the plan as monthly output of 25,000 vehicles by the end of 2026. The requested annual figure should not be read as manufacturing capacity already in place; an expansion target points the direction rather than describing an achieved production level. BYD also aims for a local component share above 50% as it moves into 2027, so the Brazil blueprint covers sourcing as well as assembly.

A trimmed target and a base-specific restriction

CLSA cut its price target for the Hong Kong-listed shares on Friday to HK$104 from HK$120 while keeping its "High-Conviction Outperform" rating. The two signals deserve separate reading: conviction in the stock held, but the valuation yardstick came down. It is not a wholesale retreat from BYD.

BYD at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Access to individual facilities is a different kind of risk. Reuters reported on Friday that the US military had announced a ban on BYD vehicles at Kadena Air Base in Okinawa on security grounds, due to take effect on Monday. The measure covers that base and does not amount to a general sales prohibition.

Taken together, the developments set out what investors should measure BYD against: execution of its growth plans, without generalising from limited setbacks or treating planned capacity as output already achieved.
