BYD marks its ten-millionth Dynasty vehicle with the Da Han sedan, due October 13, as the stock drops 1.9% to EUR 8.56, down 20% this year.

BYD has rolled the ten-millionth vehicle off its Dynasty line, a milestone few single model families in the global auto industry ever reach. The commemorative car is the Da Han flagship sedan, which the company says will be officially launched on October 13.

Investors greeted the production landmark with little enthusiasm. The stock slipped 1.9% in today's session to EUR 8.56, extending a decline that has now reached 20% since the start of the year.

Da Han Leads a Packed Launch Calendar

The Da Han extends BYD's push into the upper price tiers, building on a Dynasty range that has served as one of the group's core pillars and a key driver of the brand's rise. A mid-October sales debut is intended to cement that standing further.

It is far from the only product news in the pipeline. Yesterday the company previewed the second generation of its Seal 07 sedan, which media reports say grows in exterior dimensions to a length of 5,080 millimeters. That stock market session closed 1.0% lower at EUR 8.72.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying BYD?

Earlier in the month, on September 2, BYD formally introduced the Sealion 08 SUV in China, positioning it as the new flagship of its Ocean range. Buyers can choose from eight trim levels, with prices running from 229,900 yuan ($33,890) to 279,900 yuan, and a choice of fully electric drivetrains or DM-i plug-in hybrids. Demand arrived quickly: more than 12,000 orders were placed within the first 24 hours of the sales launch, according to media reports.

Xi'an Adds 8,000 Workers as Sales Drive Goes Global

To keep capacity in step with that model offensive, BYD is expanding its workforce sharply. At its Xi'an production site the company is hiring more than 8,000 new employees for factories and business units, according to the Chinese publication Yicai, as reported by Reuters.

Distribution efforts are running in parallel. On September 4 the automaker kicked off a broad sales campaign spanning its battery-electric and plug-in hybrid lineups, with the new DOLPHIN G DM-i among the offers at a monthly rate starting from GBP 250.

International momentum is lending support. European car sales rose overall in August as stronger demand for electrified vehicles offset declines in pure combustion models, Reuters reported on Thursday. Chinese manufacturers including BYD, Chery and Leapmotor nearly doubled or even tripled their sales year on year in that environment.

Competition at home is heating up at the same time. Rival Geely recently unveiled charging technology that agency reports say can replenish a vehicle in four minutes. BYD's system, by contrast, can take a battery from 10% to 97% in nine minutes, according to Reuters.

BYD at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Beyond the showroom, BYD surfaced in diplomatic planning. Bloomberg reported that Chinese government officials, preparing for a foreign trip by President Xi Jinping, weighed sending leading business figures to a meeting in Washington. BYD appeared on the preparatory lists for the state visit on September 24 as a possible participant.

The shares remain under pressure despite the steady stream of launches. With the redesigned Seal 07 now previewed and the recent model introductions behind it, BYD is working to defend its market position in a fiercely contested field.
