BYD Packs a Month With Launches, Safety Wins and a Looming Board Date
Published on 10/17/2026 at 15:01 | Editorial boerse-global.deBYD has booked October 29 for a board meeting at which directors will review and sign off on unaudited third-quarter results covering the nine months to September 30. The announcement, made on Wednesday, gives investors a fixed date to weigh a product offensive that has so far failed to lift the share price.
The stock closed Friday at EUR 8.34 and is down 22% since the start of the year, leaving it just 3.9% above its 52-week low. A steady stream of model news has yet to shake off investor caution, with headwinds ranging from proposed EU restrictions on hybrid imports to cuts in Chinese tax incentives for vehicle exports.
Safety rating and a British price tag
On the product side, BYD confirmed a five-star Euro NCAP rating for its SHARK DMO pickup. The safety body said the assessment drew on results from partner organisation ANCAP along with supplementary European testing. The rating landed a day after the company announced the model's UK launch, priced from GBP 47,295 including VAT.
The pickup rollout comes alongside a broader European push. At the Paris Motor Show on Monday, BYD unveiled the seven-seat ATTO 8 flagship SUV, which brings its FLASH charging system to the continent. The model pairs a 115 kWh second-generation Blade battery with a combined WLTP range of up to 653 km and is slated for a European launch in the first quarter of 2027.
Charging infrastructure is being built out in parallel. According to media reports, BYD aims to have around 100 FLASH stations operating in Europe by the end of 2026, expanding to 3,000 by the end of 2027.

Homologation filings and a 1,008-km sedan
Chinese regulatory filings published yesterday shed light on the next-generation Han sedan. The MIIT lists show three fully battery-electric configurations plus a plug-in hybrid variant. The all-wheel-drive version is rated at 520 kW, with a top speed of 270 km/h in the documents.
At home, the company launched the Da Han EV on Tuesday in three variants starting at 235,900 yuan. The longest-range configuration is quoted at up to 1,008 km on the Chinese CLTC cycle.
Production footprint questions are also in play. Executive Vice-President Stella Li said France is on the shortlist for a potential European manufacturing site, though no final location or timetable was disclosed.
Domestic share holds despite a September slide
In China, BYD kept its lead in the new-energy passenger car segment even as the market cooled. Retail sales of such vehicles came to 246,816 units in September, a 28.9% drop from a year earlier, according to media reports. BYD's share of the segment stood at 22.8%.
Globally, the picture was brighter. Reuters reported September 2026 total sales of 463,561 vehicles, up 17% year on year. Overseas shipments of passenger cars and pickups climbed 153.9% to 179,877 units.
Analysts trim targets
Brokerage views have shifted with the share price. JPMorgan recently cut its price target on BYD, according to media reports. CGS International lowered its target for the US-listed shares to $13.20 from $14.53 on October 7, while keeping its buy recommendation.
Whether the new model lines and the planned international expansion can steady the figures will become clearer at the end of the month, when the nine-month report is released.
