BYD Pushes Premium and Commercial Offensives as Shares Stay Trapped in Reverse

BYD shares finished Friday's session at EUR 8.84, down 0.8% on the day, extending their year-to-date decline to 17%. The stock also trades roughly 29% below its 52-week high, a gap that says as much about the bruising price war across China's electric-vehicle sector as it does about any single company decision.
The Guangzhou-based manufacturer has hardly been idle, though. Over the past two weeks it has rolled out a discounted premium flagship, confirmed a launch date for another, expanded its commercial-vehicle footprint in Europe and pushed its charging network past a symbolic threshold — all while absorbing a regulatory recall at home.
Denza Z9S Arrives With a 64,000 RMB Haircut
The clearest signal of how fiercely automakers are fighting for share in China's upper-mid-market EV segment came on Wednesday, when BYD began official sales of the Denza Z9S electric sedan. Prices for the premium-brand model run from 255,800 to 325,800 RMB, with the entry point sitting 64,000 RMB below the level set during pre-sales, according to media reports.
The Z9S offers a range of up to 1,100 kilometres on the Chinese CLTC test cycle. That aggressive opening discount lays bare the intensity of the contest for market share and shows BYD's determination to keep pressure on established rivals while defending its position in the more profitable end of the market.
Marketing muscle is being brought to bear as well. On 17 September the company extended its strategic partnership with Mediawan, an arrangement that puts BYD and Denza vehicles in front of viewers of the series "Call My Agent!"
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying BYD?
Da Han Set for 13 October, With 1,008 km of Range
A second flagship is waiting in the wings. BYD confirmed on Friday that its new Da Han limousine will go on sale in China on 13 October, with a fully electric variant among the available versions. That battery-only configuration carries a maximum CLTC range of up to 1,008 kilometres.
Charging Network Hits 2,000 Highway Sites
Infrastructure is advancing in parallel. On Thursday, BYD commissioned its 2,000th highway fast-charging station at the Baoying service area in Yangzhou. State news agency Xinhua puts the company's total network at 11,586 fast-charging points spread across 341 cities.
Reuters reported on Thursday that BYD's own rapid-charging technology is designed to bring vehicle batteries to as much as 97% capacity in nine minutes. The group intends to build 90,000 fast-charging stations worldwide by 2028, with fixed installations in the United Kingdom slated for the following year.
Commercial Vehicles Take the IAA Stage
Beyond passenger cars, the commercial-vehicle division used the IAA Transportation show on 14 September to present its European lineup. The headline offering is the heavy electric tractor unit ETT 44, which delivers up to 1,000 hp, a 600-kilometre range and a 651 kWh Blade battery.
Pakistan Fleet Tops 10,000; Shark Ads Begin
BYD's international footprint keeps widening. Mega Motor Company, the brand's official partner in Pakistan, said on Friday that more than 10,000 BYD vehicles are now on the country's roads, and that the two partners are preparing to begin local vehicle assembly there.
In China, meanwhile, BYD launched its first advertising push on Thursday for the domestic market debut of the Shark plug-in hybrid pickup. Ahead of that home-market sales start, the group had already moved 29,997 units of the model in overseas markets during the first eight months of 2026.
Recall Covers 183,211 Qin and Tang Vehicles
Not every headline has been forward-looking. Roughly a week ago, China's market regulator ordered a recall of 183,211 vehicles from the Qin and Tang model lines built between 2014 and 2022, according to Reuters. The defect concerns brake-pedal stoppers that may crack or come loose; BYD will replace the affected component free of charge.
For investors, the operational momentum has yet to translate into share-price gains. The sector-wide margin pressure generated by China's wave of price cuts continues to keep sentiment in check.
