BYD's overseas deliveries more than doubled in October, yet the Chinese automaker is heading into the final stretch of the year with a nine-month profit that has slipped below last year's level — a split-screen picture that puts the company's export engine squarely in focus.

Net profit attributable to shareholders for the first nine months fell 4.24% to RMB 22.345 billion, according to results released on 29 October. The third quarter, by contrast, delivered a 28.08% year-on-year jump in profit to RMB 10.02 billion — a figure that nonetheless came in below broker estimates, Reuters reported.

Revenue for the quarter climbed 13.59% to RMB 221.49 billion, meaning earnings outpaced the top line even as the cumulative nine-month result stayed negative. Weak demand at home and an intense price war continued to weigh on the business, according to Reuters.

October Sales: A Tale of Two Markets

Vehicle sales rose 11% year on year in October to 490,168 units, but the headline number masks a stark divergence. Deliveries outside China surged 102.8% to 170,194 vehicles, far outstripping the overall growth rate and underlining how much of BYD's momentum now rests on foreign markets.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying BYD?

At home, the picture was more subdued. Reuters described domestic demand as still soft, with aggressive price competition squeezing the sector.

Brussels Pressure Builds

The European business is also drawing political scrutiny. Fourteen members of the European Parliament have asked the European Commission to assess potential security risks posed by BYD vehicles, and they want the Commission to examine whether restrictions — including exclusion from public tenders — would be justified.

BYD pushed back, stating that data processed or stored in its vehicles or its cloud cannot be accessed remotely from China. Customers retain control of their data, the company said.

Product Offensive Continues

On the product side, BYD launched the second-generation Seal 07 in China, offered in both battery-electric and plug-in hybrid versions. Reports point to lower entry prices and a longer range than its predecessor.
