Canamera Energy Metals Clears Permits for First Ontario Drill Campaign in 48 Years as Funding Clock Ticks Down
Published on 10/08/2026 at 19:22 | Editorial boerse-global.deCanamera Energy Metals has secured the regulatory green light for exploration work at its Schryburt Lake project in Ontario, a rare earth and niobium play that has sat dormant for nearly half a century. The permit, valid for three years through September 9, 2029, covers exploration activity and up to 19 drill sites across 36 claims.
Alongside the approval, the explorer signed a Community Benefit Agreement with the Nibinamik First Nation, establishing the contractual framework for fieldwork on the ground.
Mobilization Set for Mid-October
Equipment is scheduled to move on October 16, kicking off a maiden diamond drill program of roughly 1,500 meters spread across three helicopter-supported holes. Blue Jay, Starling and Blackbird have been designated as the initial targets, with a budget of about CAD 1.7 million attached to this first phase.
The property last saw a drill bit in 1977, when work amounted to six shallow reconnaissance holes totaling just 293 meters. Schryburt Lake as a whole spans 252 claims covering approximately 4,947 hectares.
Historical sampling returned peak values of 1.82% Nb?O? and 5.65% total rare earth oxides (REO), while 2023 sampling graded 3.59% TREO and 0.47% Nb?O?.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Canamera Energy Metals?
Earn-In Structure Ties Spending to Ownership
The upcoming outlay feeds directly into an earn-in arrangement. To lock in an initial 51% stake in the property package, Canamera must incur CAD 1.5 million in exploration expenditures — a threshold the current drill budget covers. Three staged earn-in steps open the door to further expansion, and once cumulative spending reaches CAD 9.0 million, the company can climb to as much as 90% of the project.
Financing Deadline Collides With Sector Weakness
The exploration news lands at an awkward moment for the company's balance sheet. Canamera generates no steady operating revenue and depends entirely on capital markets for fresh room to maneuver. A soft patch for critical metals producers and processors — names like USA Rare Earth and MP Materials came under broad selling pressure in the prior session — has dented investor appetite for speculative early-stage ventures.
The stakes are laid out plainly in the interim report released September 28 for the three-month quarter ending July 31, 2026. Accumulated deficit stood at CAD 5,175,136, and management stated without ambiguity that continuing operations hinge on successfully raising new funds. That going-concern note is the yardstick against which the company must be judged: absent fresh money, insolvency looms.
Rights Offering Offers a Narrow Window
The upside case rests on the company's rights offering. Should the targeted gross proceeds of up to CAD 765,246.13 be fully subscribed, the most urgent liquidity gap would close for the time being, giving management breathing room to push exploration forward and weigh strategic options. A fully taken-up offer could allow a temporary floor to form, pushing acute insolvency risk to the background — provided existing shareholders are willing to commit new capital.
The flip side carries real weight. If shareholder interest stays tepid and the raise falls short, Canamera faces an immediate reckoning, since continuation is explicitly tied to fresh financing. Even a formal success brings substantial risk to the existing shareholder base: the transaction comprises 76,524,613 rights at an exercise price of CAD 0.01 each. That volume of additional shares would sharply dilute current holders, and the extremely low strike price lays bare just how much pressure the company is under to bring in capital.
A Decision Due by Mid-October
The timeline leaves little room for delay. The rights offering expires October 9, with final closing expected by October 15. By mid-month it will be clear whether Canamera receives the lifeline or whether the accumulated deficit seals the junior explorer's fate.
In European trading, the stock steadied at EUR 0.0578 following the news. Over the past 30 days, however, the shares have shed 48% and remain 93% below their 52-week high. Whether the drill campaign can confirm the historical sample grades at depth now hangs over the equity — but the more immediate question is whether the financing lands first.
