CATL's Debrecen Plant Clears Legal Hurdle as Buyback Passes RMB 5.36 Billion
Published on 11/04/2026 at 13:21 | Editorial boerse-global.deA Hungarian court has thrown out a lawsuit brought by local residents against the permit for CATL's battery plant in Debrecen, removing a legal overhang from one of the company's key European projects. The court found the plaintiffs no longer had standing to sue after the permitting documents were revised, and Reuters reported that judges identified no irregularities in the state approval process.
The ruling, issued Friday, addressed the specific permit the residents had contested for the Debrecen site. It lands alongside a steady flow of corporate news from the Chinese battery giant, which also disclosed fresh figures on its share repurchase programme and unveiled a string of partnerships spanning electric aviation, vehicle charging and energy storage.
Buyback Nears Half a Percent of A-Shares
In a regulatory filing on Monday, CATL said it had bought back 19,605,919 A-shares as of Saturday, equal to 0.4447% of its total A-share capital. The company spent RMB 5,360,125,612.64 on the purchases, or roughly RMB 5.36 billion. The shares acquired under the plan are earmarked for cancellation.
The approved buyback programme authorises purchases of between RMB 20 billion and RMB 40 billion. Monday's disclosure documents cumulative acquisitions to date rather than the completion of the programme. CATL's stock rose 3.8% in the previous session.

Exclusive Role on a Vertical-Takeoff Aircraft
CATL is deepening its ties with Blue Vector Intelligent Technology. The two companies signed agreements on Monday covering strategic cooperation and product collaboration, with Blue Vector naming CATL as exclusive battery partner for its SKYLA V30, an electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft. CATL is to develop a bespoke aviation battery for the craft.
Days earlier, on 29 October, CATL and Dongfeng Motor sealed a strategic cooperation agreement in Wuhan. The partners intend to build an integrated ecosystem spanning batteries, vehicles and energy services, with media reports pointing to ultra-fast charging, battery swapping and joint activities overseas among the areas covered. No contract value was disclosed.
Australian Debut for TENER+ and Sodium-Ion
Also on 29 October, CATL used the All Energy Australia 2026 exhibition to give its TENER+ energy storage system a global launch. The unit offers 9 MWh of capacity and, according to the company, can cut container requirements by up to 40% while reducing the project footprint needed by 12%.
