Citi Lifts Qiagen Target to $52 but Sticks With Neutral as EQT's €46.50 Bid Caps the Upside
Published on 10/27/2026 at 23:30 | Editorial boerse-global.deCitigroup raised its price target on Qiagen from $45 to $52, according to media reports, while leaving its rating at Neutral. The move reflects a recalibration of valuation rather than a change of heart on the stock — and it lands squarely in the middle of a takeover story that has already reshaped how analysts view the German diagnostics group.
The shift follows a busy stretch of broker activity triggered by EQT Private Equity's agreed cash offer for Qiagen. JPMorgan downgraded the shares from Overweight to Neutral on Thursday and trimmed its own target from $55 to $52, citing the limited further upside now that the EQT bid sets something of a ceiling on the price. Two houses, two directions of travel on their targets, but the same $52 destination.
The Deal That Reset the Debate
Qiagen and EQT Private Equity struck an agreement on 21 October over a recommended voluntary public cash takeover offer. Crown NL Bidco B.V., a vehicle indirectly controlled by EQT, intends to acquire all Qiagen shares at €46.50 apiece in cash, valuing the transaction at roughly €10.8 billion. Qiagen's boards backed the agreement unanimously and recommend that shareholders tender their stock.
Reuters reported that the deal would take Qiagen off the stock exchange. The news agency also named ADIA of Abu Dhabi and Canada's CPP Investments as co-investors alongside EQT, with entities linked to the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board also participating in the offer.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Qiagen?
Closing is expected around mid-2027. Among the conditions are a minimum acceptance threshold of 50% plus one share, shareholder approvals and regulatory clearances. Detailed offer terms are to follow once BaFin gives its nod and the offer period opens — at the time of the announcement, the bid had not yet launched.
Qiagen filed the joint press release, the ad-hoc disclosure and the takeover agreement with the US Securities and Exchange Commission on Friday.
Guidance Pulled While the Bid Runs
Alongside the deal announcement, Qiagen released provisional third-quarter 2026 figures: net sales of $548 million and adjusted diluted earnings per share of $0.65, both at reported and constant exchange rates. The company suspended its full-year 2026 outlook while the EQT transaction remains pending. Complete quarterly results are scheduled for 4 November 2026, and Qiagen said no conference call is planned.
