Czech defence group CSG is laying the groundwork for a physical industrial presence on American soil, pairing a fresh supply agreement with Hanwha Defense USA against a broader push to localise production inside the United States. Under the arrangement reported by Bloomberg on Wednesday, CSG will provide Tatra Force truck chassis for the wheeled artillery system Hanwha is pitching to the U.S. Army — a concrete entry into the procurement chain of the American armed forces. Company officials separately confirmed they are weighing where to build their own U.S. plants, a move that carries weight in a market where domestic manufacturing capacity often decides who wins Pentagon contracts.

The North American campaign gets its public launch next week. From 12 to 14 October, CSG will appear for the first time as a group at the Association of the United States Army's annual exhibition in Washington, D.C., putting its Defence Systems and Ammo+ divisions on display alongside its U.S. subsidiaries. Tatra vehicles, artillery systems and ammunition form the core of the exhibit, and media reports indicate that munitions from Spanish subsidiary Fábrica de Municiones de Granada will be shown on site for the first time. No financial figures or firm new orders accompanied the announcement.

Quiet Period Arrives as Overseas Deals Stack Up

The Washington debut coincides with a shift in the company's disclosure calendar: CSG enters its quiet period on 12 October, ahead of the third-quarter 2026 trading update scheduled for 11 November 2026. Before that window closed, the group had rolled out a string of international initiatives.

At the end of September, CSG unveiled plans for a second joint venture in Azerbaijan with an unnamed local partner, aimed at localising production of wheeled self-propelled howitzers. Formation is expected in December 2026, with output slated to begin in 2027. Management estimates the project opens up a business opportunity worth EUR 1.8 billion across a seven-year horizon.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying CSG?

Roughly two weeks ago, the group also signed agreements covering its participation in a Latvian armed forces modernisation programme built around Morana artillery systems and multiple rocket launchers, with subsidiary Tatra Defence Systems acting as prime contractor. Press reports put the overall programme in the hundreds of millions of euros, though unit counts and the exact contract value were not disclosed.

On the technology front, CSG is widening its bet on unmanned counter-drone systems. Through Federal Ammunition, it is working with O.F. Mossberg & Sons and Palladyne AI on SwarmShot, an autonomous aerial drone-defence platform that relies on reusable interceptors.

Shares Trade Well Below January Peak

Market reaction to the news flow has been muted, with the stock locked in consolidation. CSG closed Friday at EUR 14.06, giving the company a market capitalisation of EUR 14.07 billion. That leaves the shares 61% below their 52-week high of EUR 36.05, set at the end of January.

Sentiment took an additional hit at the start of the month when Bank of America initiated coverage on 1 October with an "Underperform" rating and a price target of EUR 13. Whether the company's first appearance on the U.S. defence stage generates fresh momentum is likely to be tested in the coming sessions, with quarterly figures due on 11 November.
