CSG has made its first direct foray into the space sector, acquiring a 9.5% stake in MDA Space Ltd. that elevates the defence and technology group to the position of largest shareholder in the space company. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The investment, reported by Reuters, is aimed at unlocking long-term collaboration opportunities. These include joint investments in European manufacturing or assembly facilities, as well as possible strategic acquisitions. CSG also intends to leverage its existing customer relationships to support MDA Space's international expansion.

To steer the new venture, CSG introduced a freshly assembled space team that will be led by Ladislav Stahl and Filip Kocián, with Cameron McKenzie serving as senior adviser.

Drone-Interceptor Programme and US Manufacturing Push

The space move complements a series of recent initiatives. Just last week, on 8 October, CSG announced — through its Federal Ammunition subsidiary — a partnership with O.F. Mossberg & Sons and Palladyne AI to develop the SwarmShot counter-drone system. The project is an autonomous defence system against unmanned aerial systems, designed to convert commercially available or compatible drones into reusable interceptor drones for air-to-air missions using specialised ammunition.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying CSG?

Federal Ammunition is contributing to the alliance as part of its The Kinetic Group division. The company classified the project as a development programme and did not disclose a specific contract volume or report firm orders for the interceptor system at this stage.

The technological cooperation fits into CSG's broader efforts to deepen its footprint in the North American security sector. As part of that strategic direction, the group plans to establish manufacturing and assembly of Tatra-brand vehicles in the United States, a step expected to begin in early 2027.

CSG is also presenting its own capabilities for the first time at the Association of the U.S. Army defence exhibition in Washington, D.C., running from 12 to 14 October. The display features products and systems from its CSG Defence Systems and CSG Ammo+ divisions.

Share Price Under Pressure Ahead of Quarterly Update

In the market, the stock has been navigating a challenging environment. CSG shares changed hands at EUR 14.21 on the day of the space stake announcement, a decline of 1.3%, giving the company a market capitalisation of EUR 14.07 billion. The previous session had seen the stock gain 2.4% to close at EUR 14.40. The current price sits roughly 60% below its 52-week high of EUR 36.05, reflecting a prolonged consolidation.

Analysts have struck a cautious tone as well. BofA Securities initiated coverage of CSG on 1 October with a sell recommendation and a price target of EUR 13.00.

Attention now turns to the company's operating performance for the past quarter. According to CSG's financial calendar, the trading update for the third quarter of 2026 is scheduled for 11 November. The quiet period ahead of the release, during which no in-depth discussions with the capital markets take place, began as planned on Monday. No new earnings guidance or interim operating results for the third quarter were issued in the run-up to the report.
