D-Wave Quantum: A 19% Sector Rally Meets Two Trimmed Price Targets Ahead of the November 10 Print
Published on 11/08/2026 at 16:11 | Editorial boerse-global.deD-Wave Quantum shares climbed 19% on Friday, carried higher by a broad advance across the quantum computing sector after peer IonQ raised its revenue outlook for 2026. That sector-wide lift, however, sits alongside a more cautious signal: two research houses have cut their price targets on the stock while leaving their positive ratings intact. For investors, the tension between buoyant sentiment and reduced expectations is the real story heading into the company's third-quarter results.
Wedbush trimmed its target to $30 from $37 on Wednesday, keeping its "Outperform" rating. The move captures the split mood neatly — constructive on the business, more restrained on the upside it is willing to underwrite. Anyone reading only the unchanged rating would, on this view, be giving the target cut too little weight.
The second adjustment came earlier. On November 2, B. Riley Securities' Craig Ellis lowered his price target to $27 from $40, with the buy recommendation also left in place. Both actions point the same way, which is why the cuts arguably carry more information than the ratings that survived them. A more confident stance would need operating evidence capable of justifying the conviction behind those recommendations.
Drug Discovery Puts the Technology in Concrete Terms
Evidence of exactly that kind arrived on October 28, when D-Wave reported a win for its customer Shionogi. The Japanese pharmaceutical group took first place in the quality-of-life category of NEDO's quantum computing competition, recognized for drug discovery work built on D-Wave's annealing technology. The ¥40 million prize is earmarked to support further quantum computing research.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying D-Wave Quantum?
The customer's central role is what makes the award notable. Shionogi stands at the heart of the recognized project as the end user, and the application gives the abstract promise of quantum computing a tangible subject: investors can at least name the problem being tackled and the technology chosen to tackle it. Such a success gains weight for the investment case if it sustains further research and anchors the technology in practical use — the link between application and durability is where the economic value would lie.
Faster Tools Only Matter If They Get Used
D-Wave's product work points in the same direction. The company announced a revision to its hybrid Stride solver on Wednesday, saying the new version produced better solutions within 15 seconds in benchmark tests than its predecessor managed within 120 seconds. Alongside it, D-Wave launched a developer learning path comprising three courses.
A more capable tool and training materials can reinforce each other, provided developers can apply the improvements to their own problems. The interesting question for investors is therefore less the specific speed comparison than whether D-Wave is making its technology easier to adopt.
A non-binding letter of intent signed roughly two weeks ago fits that pattern. D-Wave and LG CNS plan joint work on quantum optimization applications and on commercialization opportunities in South Korea and international markets. The partnership opens a prospect — conditional on the planned activities turning into concrete applications and business.
November 10 Is the Economic Test
D-Wave has scheduled its third-quarter 2026 results for before the market open on November 10, with a webcast set for 8:00 a.m. Eastern Time.
D-Wave Quantum at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
The yardstick for that release is whether the technical progress carries through to the business. Disclosure on whether users are expanding their deployments, and how revenue develops as a result, would be especially telling. That is an expectation about how to read the numbers, not a forecast of what they will contain.
Weighing it all up, caution has the upper hand before the print. D-Wave can point to genuine technical advances, a customer win in drug discovery and continued positive analyst ratings. A more favorable view looks justified only once the business figures match — sector tailwinds improve the mood, but durable confidence should rest on the company's own results.
