D-Wave Quantum’s Two Tests: Research Promise and Revenue Conversion
Published on 11/03/2026 at 10:04 | Editorial boerse-global.deD-Wave Quantum’s latest research announcement and its investor lawsuit address very different questions. A university study offers a promising result for quantum hardware in lung-cancer prediction; the legal claims focus on whether the company’s commercial outlook and order figures reflected durable demand. Neither, on its own, settles how much revenue D-Wave can generate.
Researchers at Florida Atlantic University tested D-Wave quantum annealing hardware on lung-cancer prediction using limited data. A support-vector-machine model run on the hardware achieved 91.90% accuracy, the highest result in the study, according to the university. But the university described the findings as preliminary. The analysis also relied on a dataset expanded with additional data and on the evaluation method selected. The result points to a possible application, not proven performance in medical practice or a demonstrated economic contribution to D-Wave.
The announcement came as D-Wave shares recorded a daily change of -5.7% yesterday. The study does not explain that market move. A separate healthcare research development concerns D-Wave customer Shionogi: on 28 October, D-Wave said Shionogi had won the quality-of-life category at Japan’s NEDO Quantum Computing Challenge for quantum-computing research in drug discovery. The 40 million ¥ prize is intended to support Shionogi’s further research. The award and the university study are distinct signs of research activity, not evidence of commercial revenue for D-Wave.
A recently agreed, non-binding letter of intent with LG CNS is aimed at broader business use. It covers quantum optimization in South Korea and international markets, along with joint marketing opportunities; its non-binding status limits what can be inferred about its financial impact. D-Wave is scheduled to release third-quarter 2026 results before the market opens on 10 November.

The commercial claims remain unproven
Separately, Levi & Korsinsky has reminded investors about an already-filed securities class action involving purchasers of D-Wave securities between 26 February and 25 August. The firm gives 15 December as the deadline to seek appointment as lead plaintiff. The complaint alleges that D-Wave materially overstated its business and financial prospects. Those are allegations, not established findings, and repeated notices from law firms do not amount to new evidence.
Rosen Law Firm provided more detail on the claims yesterday. According to the complaint, order intake declined in 2025, while the record order intake described for 2026 was based mostly on two contracts signed before the class period and did not reflect comparable new commercial demand. The complaint also alleges that D-Wave could not convert system sales into new orders, and that deliveries and associated revenue could move into the fourth quarter of 2026 and beyond 2027. These, too, remain claims and possible developments, not facts determined by a court.
The company’s second-quarter 2026 revenue was 3.08 million US dollars, below the 4.03 million US dollars consensus estimate. Loss per share came to 0.10 US dollars, against an expected loss of 0.08 US dollars. The revenue miss does not prove the complaint’s allegations, but it gives investors reason to scrutinize how demand translates into shipments and realized sales. A large order backlog alone does not establish when revenue will be recognized.
B. Riley cut its price target from 40 to 27 US dollars while maintaining a buy rating. D-Wave’s current share price of 8.85 € is at its 52-week low. The combination of a retained buy recommendation and a lower target reflects a more cautious valuation, but does not resolve the operational questions or the lawsuit’s claims. For now, the research results describe potential applications, while the commercial test is whether D-Wave can show delivery progress and turn its business prospects into realized revenue.
