German DAX hovers near all-time high of 26,504, with overbought RSI and a flood of quarterly results driving stock-specific moves.

The German benchmark index is catching its breath. After scaling a fresh all-time high of 26,504.54 points on Tuesday, the DAX is trading in a narrow band just beneath that milestone, roughly 0.42 percent away from the record — a hair's breadth that underscores how little selling pressure has actually materialized.

Tuesday's session told the story of a market in two acts. Momentum carried the index to its historic peak by midday, but profit-taking trimmed the gains into the close, leaving the DAX up 0.26 percent at 26,391.92 points. That puts the index up 7.76 percent since the start of the year and more than 20 percent above its 52-week low from March.

Overbought Signals Temper Enthusiasm

The technical picture offers a clear explanation for the hesitation. The Relative Strength Index sits at 71.2, firmly in overbought territory — a reading that historically suggests the market may need to digest recent gains before pushing higher. The 20, 50 and 200-day moving averages all remain in bullish alignment, with the index trading 4.81 percent above its 50-day line and 7.75 percent above the 200-day line. But that stretched positioning, combined with slightly below-average trading volume, points to cautious accumulation at elevated levels rather than unbridled conviction.

Timo Emden of CapTrader captured the prevailing mood: investors are caught between record-high euphoria and a reality check. The Iran conflict and its attendant oil price risks linger in the background — crude traded between $87 and roughly $90 per barrel during Wednesday's session — even as the euro held steady against the dollar.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying DAX?

A Flood of Quarterly Results Takes Center Stage

Wednesday's action is being driven less by the index itself and more by an unusually dense wave of corporate earnings. K+S, Eon, Bilfinger, TKMS, Brenntag, Tui, Thyssenkrupp Nucera and Wienerberger all released quarterly figures before midday, producing pronounced share-price swings in individual names. This is the classic mid-earnings-season dynamic: the music is playing in single stocks, not the broader market.

Defensive plays and sector rotation did the heavy lifting on Tuesday. Siemens Energy topped the DAX leaderboard with a 3.22 percent advance to 159.58 euros, extending its remarkable run. Deutsche Telekom attracted safe-haven demand, while RWE climbed 1.42 percent to 57.30 euros as investors rotated toward utilities. Rheinmetall continues to benefit from positive analyst commentary, including a 1,600-euro price target from RBC Capital Markets.

The losers were dominated by profit-taking in names that had run hard. Adidas fell 3.73 percent to 161.10 euros, while Qiagen and Zalando dropped 3.00 and 2.26 percent respectively. Consorsbank analyst Jochen Stanzl flagged elevated energy prices as a latent headwind despite the earnings growth many companies are posting.

Inflation Data and Chart Levels in Focus

Wednesday brings two developments that could determine whether the index reclaims its record. The German cabinet meets under Vice-Chancellor Lars Klingbeil to discuss reforms spanning intelligence services, early retirement and student financing — but the more market-relevant event is the release of consumer price data from Germany and the US, which could shape expectations for ECB and Fed rate policy.

The latest ZEW survey offers a cautionary note on the rally's fundamental underpinnings. While the July expectations component surprised to the upside at 26.3 points, the current conditions assessment came in sharply negative at minus 77.6 — a disconnect that raises questions about how much substance lies beneath the price action.

DAX at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Chartists are watching the 26,300 to 26,450 zone closely. A decisive move above the upper boundary would open the path toward fresh records, with the next psychological milestone at 27,000 points theoretically within reach. A drop below 26,300, however, could trigger a more meaningful consolidation. Support sits at 26,357 and 26,294 points. Pre-market indications for Wednesday suggest a trading range between 26,365 and 26,574.

For now, the weekly trend remains intact with the index up roughly one percent — and the distance to the record so thin that a single strong session could rewrite the history books once again.
