Goldman Sachs trimmed its price target on Deutsche Telekom to 38 euros on Monday while keeping a "Buy" rating on the stock — a recalibration that landed just as the Bonn-based carrier was laying out an expansive technology and cost-cutting agenda to investors. The shares responded by adding 1.1% to close at 26.74 euros, a modest advance that nonetheless stood in contrast to the prior session, when the reduced target weighed on the stock, according to media reports.

The adjustment from Goldman reflects a broader divergence in how the analyst community is reading the DAX heavyweight's medium-term prospects following a series of strategic decisions. Deutsche Bank, for its part, reaffirmed its buy recommendation yesterday with a 40-euro target, implying substantial upside from current levels. Berenberg has likewise signaled confidence with targets above the present price. The stock gave back 1.6% on Tuesday to 26.44 euros, leaving it roughly 23% below its 52-week high of 34.35 euros — a gap that puts the burden of proof squarely on whether the company's revenue ambitions materialize.

An Investor Day That Stood Out

Deutsche Bank analyst Robert Grindle singled out the company's recent investor day as one of the first events of its kind in the European telecommunications sector, and he came away positive on both the cost and revenue sides of the equation. Management used the occasion to reaffirm its guidance and medium-term objectives, pairing efficiency programs and automation with a gradual build-out in the enterprise business.

The revenue story leans heavily on artificial intelligence. Deutsche Telekom expects B2B sales outside the United States to climb from an anticipated 250 million euros this year to roughly 800 million euros by 2030, powered by AI offerings. To capture opportunities in sovereign infrastructure, the company is building an Industrial AI Cloud in Munich together with Nvidia.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Deutsche Telekom?

Savings That Fund the Buildout

Underpinning the improved cost structure are substantial savings targets unveiled Monday in Bonn. Outside the US, the group aims for gross savings of about 1.1 billion euros by 2027 compared with 2023, with roughly 2.5 billion euros in indirect cost reductions targeted by 2030. Between 2023 and 2027, management intends to channel 100 million to 150 million euros of those savings directly into fiber expansion in Germany and digital transformation — money that supports profitability while accelerating the network build.

Operational progress at T-Mobile US offers a glimpse of what automation can deliver. Human-handled service calls have already fallen 55%, while automated systems now manage 40% of customer contacts. By the end of 2027, the US subsidiary is targeting a 75% reduction in human-handled service calls. The network side tells a similar story: during Winter Storm Fern in January, the US network executed more than 30,000 antenna adjustments automatically, extending battery backup at sites by over 250,000 minutes. Most customers were reconnected within an hour.

Fiber Acquisitions and Buybacks

Beyond organic expansion, Deutsche Telekom is pursuing targeted network acquisitions. On October 2, it agreed to acquire the fiber infrastructure of ruhrfibre Essen and Metrofibre through an asset deal covering a network serving roughly 87,000 households in the Essen city area. The transaction remains subject to closing conditions, according to the company. The move follows a strategic partnership struck with Cloudflare in late September to broaden the enterprise portfolio in digital security.

The company is also generating demand through its own transactions. Under its ongoing buyback program, the telecommunications provider had repurchased more than 21 million of its own shares through October 2.

Investors now turn their attention to the next major corporate milestone: on November 5, 2026, Deutsche Telekom will publish its financial results for the third quarter.
