Deutsche Telekom added 222,000 fiber connections in August and unveiled Cloudflare and AI billing partnerships, but Bernstein downgraded the stock.

Deutsche Telekom spent the past week stacking up operational announcements on several fronts at once — expanding its fiber footprint, deepening cloud and security partnerships, and continuing to mop up its own stock. Investors, however, greeted the flurry of activity with a shrug, sending the shares modestly lower in Tuesday trading.

The Bonn-based carrier said it completed an additional 222,000 fiber connections in August, lifting the total number of households and businesses able to book fiber tariffs with bandwidths of up to 2,000 Mbit/s to 14.1 million. The stock slipped 1.5% to EUR 26.40 on the day, with some afternoon prints showing a 1.6% decline to EUR 26.39 on Xetra.

Cloud Deals and a New AI Billing Tool

Alongside the network buildout, the group unveiled two separate partnerships aimed at thickening its business-customer offering. A strategic tie-up with U.S. specialist Cloudflare will fold that company's security and connectivity solutions into Deutsche Telekom's enterprise portfolio, while the two partners are also linking their network infrastructures directly to sharpen performance and resilience for digital services. Market watchers read the move as a deliberate push to keep higher-margin IT and security work anchored in the core corporate business, with the direct network coupling promising customers lower latency and steadier data transmission.

A second collaboration, announced the same day with provider caery, targets a narrower niche: an AI-based software tool that automates billing, auditing and payouts for health and long-term care insurers. The application runs on the company's own T Cloud Public infrastructure.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Deutsche Telekom?

These enterprise initiatives follow a string of recent moves to broaden the digital product range. Roughly a week ago, media reports said the company launched T-Travel, its own eSIM platform for international travel, offering mobile data packages for more than 200 destinations and aimed explicitly at consumers who are not yet Telekom mobile customers. On the home front, the group bolstered its MagentaTV platform by integrating Warner Bros. Discovery's HBO Max streaming service — partnerships designed to shore up subscriber loyalty in the domestic fixed-line market and generate additional service revenue.

Bernstein Steps Back From Its Bull Case

The operational news has not shielded the stock from more cautious analyst views. On Friday, Bernstein downgraded the shares from "Outperform" to "Market-Perform" and cut its price target to EUR 28.10 from EUR 37. The analysts pointed to lingering uncertainty over a possible merger at subsidiary T-Mobile US, along with intensifying competition in Germany's fixed-line and broadband market.

Management, for its part, continues to lean on its own balance sheet to support the share price. Under the running buyback program, the company repurchased 3,292,319 of its own shares during the trading week of September 21 through 25. Since the current tranche began on August 10, the total has reached 17,298,084 shares.

What's Next on the Calendar

Attention now shifts to two upcoming events. On Monday, October 5, Deutsche Telekom hosts its AI Investor Day, focused on the commercial applications of artificial intelligence. Detailed figures follow about a month later, when the company reports third-quarter 2026 results on November 5.

With the stock currently sitting 23% below its 52-week high of EUR 34.35, margin development and customer growth are likely to draw the closest scrutiny when those numbers land.
