Deutz Girds for Interim Report With 400 Jobs on the Line and FFG Owners Set for Board Seats

Deutz plans roughly 400 job cuts in Cologne and board seats for ex-FFG owners, with nine-month figures due 5 November 2026.

Deutz is pressing ahead with a sweeping overhaul on two fronts at once — thinning out its Cologne workforce while handing boardroom influence to the former owners of Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft — just as investors brace for the engine maker's nine-month figures on 5 November 2026.

The personnel moves at the top and the cuts on the factory floor are two sides of the same coin: a company remaking itself around a broader business model while squeezing costs out of its traditional engine operations.

Roughly 400 positions in scope

According to a Handelsblatt report, Deutz intends to shed around 400 jobs in total. About 100 of those were already in the process of being cut, while a further 300 were internally agreed on 6 October. The small-engine business is bearing the brunt of the measures. The company declined to comment on the reports when approached.

A separate account from the dpa news agency puts the Cologne-site reduction at between 130 and 200 positions by the end of 2028, with as many as 300 roles potentially affected in a worst case. Deutz confirmed on 7 October that talks with employee representatives were already under way, aimed at gradually aligning capacity with a changed market environment and safeguarding the site's long-term competitiveness.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Deutz?

Board seats for former FFG shareholders

Alongside the restructuring, the supervisory board is set for a reshuffle stemming from the Flensburg acquisition. Two shareholder representatives are expected to leave the control body before their regular terms expire, with the vacant seats to pass to representatives of the former owners of Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft at the end of the year — a reflection of the ownership shifts wrought by the transaction.

Insiders, meanwhile, have been signalling confidence with their own money. Supervisory board member Dietmar Voggenreiter bought a package of 5,000 Deutz shares at EUR 10.68 apiece roughly three weeks ago, a total volume of EUR 53,400.

Capital raise and analyst backing

The strategic repositioning was flanked by a capital measure completed in September. Deutz finalised a 10% capital increase on 15 September, issuing 15,263,810 new shares for gross proceeds of around EUR 179 million. The move initially diluted existing holdings but bolstered the balance sheet for future steps.

Analysts have largely cheered the direction of travel. Warburg Research's Stefan Augustin, writing on 13 October ahead of the nine-month numbers, expected a sharply higher order intake for the third quarter while cautioning that engine production was likely to have stayed at a low level. Warburg kept its "Buy" rating and a EUR 19 price target. Berenberg raised its target to EUR 16.50 from EUR 13.00 on 7 October and reiterated its "Buy" recommendation.

Shares up sharply on the year

The market has so far given management credit for widening the business while tightening cost structures in conventional engine manufacturing. In pre-market trading the stock stood at EUR 11.01, up 1.8% on the day, and it has gained 30% since the start of the year — though it continues to trade against a backdrop of savings measures and cyclical uncertainty.

How much of the cost programme and the production dip has already fed through to margins will become clearer when the quarterly statement lands.
