Two supervisory board members at Deutz have purchased stock in the Cologne-based engine manufacturer, a show of confidence that lands just as the company prepares to disclose how deeply its home-turf overhaul is biting into earnings.

Dr. Rudolf Maier acquired shares worth EUR 99,540.00 through the Stuttgart exchange, while Dr. Dietmar Voggenreiter invested EUR 53,400.00 of his own money — a combined EUR 152,940 commitment that market participants typically read as a signal of faith in the long-term strategy.

The purchases come with the stock trading at EUR 10.80 on Tuesday, down 0.3% on the day. Even so, Deutz shares have climbed 27% since the start of the year, though they remain roughly 19% below their 52-week high of EUR 13.39.

Analysts See Different Ceilings

Where the bulls and the merely constructive part ways is on how much upside is left. MPCM keeps a "Buy" rating with a EUR 19 target, while Bernstein Research on Tuesday reaffirmed "Outperform" with a EUR 12.40 target. Analyst Pal Skirta pointed to leaner corporate structures and said the group is on track to meet its annual goals. Stefan Augustin at MPCM expects engine production to stay subdued for now but forecasts a sharply rising order intake.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Deutz?

Berenberg had already weighed in about a week earlier, raising its target to EUR 16.50 with a buy recommendation, citing the potential of the realignment. Efficiency gains and cost discipline are widely viewed as the levers that will protect profitability through fluctuating utilization.

Cologne Plant Faces Deep Cuts

Those efficiency efforts carry a human price. Management is planning substantial capacity reductions at the Cologne headquarters, concentrated in the smaller-engine business. Reports have cited up to 400 positions at risk, with some already executed or internally agreed; a dpa report citing informed sources put the maximum figure at up to 300 jobs disappearing by the end of 2028. Deutz declined to comment on the reports.

The planned cutbacks underscore the persistent pressure on the company's traditional manufacturing operations, as leadership tries to align its cost base with a changed demand environment.

Investors will get hard numbers on the actual business performance and the financial impact of the restructuring on November 5, 2026, when Deutz publishes its quarterly statement for the first nine months.
