Deutz Loses Ground as Rheinmetall's Boxer Delay Weighs on Defence Stocks
Published on 11/08/2026 at 18:01 | Editorial boerse-global.deDeutz shares closed Friday down 2.0%, caught in a broad retreat that had little to do with the engine maker's own results. The trigger came a day earlier: Rheinmetall's second revenue guidance cut, which media reports attributed to a delayed major Boxer order, soured sentiment across the defence sector and erased early gains Deutz had booked after publishing its quarterly figures.
The wider market offered no shelter. According to dpa-AFX, a global selloff in AI and semiconductor stocks weighed on German equities through the session.
A 29.9% Voting Bloc Takes Shape
Filings published Friday put the focus on Deutz's shareholder register. Thomas Liebelt, Felix Liebelt and Franziska Lindsay-Liebelt, together with several investment vehicles, disclosed a coordinated voting package of 29.90%. The mandatory notification lists Thursday as the date the threshold was crossed.
The vehicles named in the filing include BRIMA GmbH, J.O.S.S. Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH, Universum Holding GmbH and FFG Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH. The stake corresponds to roughly 71.6 million voting rights. A notice already issued Thursday had shown FFG and attributed votes at the same percentage level.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Deutz?
Separate disclosures tell a similar story from other angles. Norbert Erichsen had 29.90% of voting rights attributed to him as of Thursday, based on a voting agreement and attributions via FFG Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH. Gorm Iver Gondesen, Maren Gondesen, Gorm-Eilif Gondesen and Lisa-Marie Gondesen were likewise each credited with a combined 29.90%, with the publication citing Universum Holding GmbH and a voting agreement.
Deutz had already reported a new total of around 240 million voting rights on Thursday; the related capital measure took effect on Wednesday.
Nine-Month Growth, a Weaker Third Quarter
The operating picture is mixed. Revenue for the first nine months of 2026 reached EUR 1.67 billion, up 11.3% year on year. Adjusted operating profit climbed 36.0% to EUR 118.2 million, lifting the adjusted EBIT margin to 7.1%.
Group net income for the third quarter moved the other way, falling to EUR 6.9 million from EUR 12.3 million a year earlier.
Management kept its full-year revenue target at EUR 2.3 billion to EUR 2.5 billion. Since Thursday, the company has guided for the upper end of its 6.5% to 8.0% adjusted EBIT margin range.

FFG Deal Closed, Defence Revenue in Sight
Deutz confirmed the completion of the FFG acquisition on Thursday. For 2027, the company expects the defence segment to contribute more than EUR 1 billion in additional revenue at an adjusted EBITDA margin above 20%.
On the analyst side, Berenberg reaffirmed its buy rating on Friday after what it called a mixed set of quarterly figures, keeping its price target at EUR 16.50. MPCM cut its target to EUR 18 from EUR 19 while maintaining a buy recommendation, pointing among other things to the valuation of peer companies. DZ Bank had lowered its fair value to EUR 15 from EUR 16 on Thursday, according to dpa-AFX, also sticking with its buy call.
In a separate personnel move, Deutz extended finance chief Oliver Neu's contract through 2032 on Thursday. The company's calendar lists the publication of its 2026 annual report and an earnings press conference with analysts and investors for March 30, 2027.
