DroneShield has packed the past few weeks with operational wins, a boardroom handover and fresh contract security — yet investors have greeted the news with a shrug. The counter-drone specialist's shares closed Friday at EUR 1.01, a level that sits 73% beneath the 52-week peak of EUR 3.79 and 12% under the 50-day moving average of EUR 1.16. Since the start of the year, the stock has shed 44%.

The most tangible of the recent achievements came on the US military front. DroneShield wrapped up installation and acceptance testing of its DroneSentry-X Mk2 counter-UAS system on Infantry Squad Vehicles, with the kit put through its paces under the Joint Interagency Task Force 401 program. What stands out is the tempo: roughly 80 days elapsed between contract award and delivery, a window that covered mechanical vehicle integration, live operational trials against unmanned aerial systems and training for the operators. A contract modification now calls for three more DroneSentry-X Mk2 units to be fitted down the line.

Platform Opens Up to a Laser Partner

Alongside the fielding work, DroneShield is widening the aperture of its technology stack. The company's open counter-drone architecture has been extended to accommodate Fractl, a high-energy laser developed by partner AIM Defence — a move aimed at letting different defeat mechanisms operate inside a single, unified system.

The build-out extends to bricks and mortar as well. DroneShield opened a dedicated research and development facility in Adelaide to deepen its Australian engineering footprint, complete with dedicated dry labs for advancing its defensive systems and software work.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying DroneShield?

Order Book Locked In Through 2027

Commercial momentum underpins the expansion. Roughly a fortnight ago, DroneShield lifted its secured order volume, with contracted revenue for fiscal 2026 now standing at 251 million AUD — comfortably inside the company's guidance range of 250 to 270 million AUD. Management has also banked 46 million AUD in contractual revenue for fiscal 2027 and beyond, giving the drone-defense specialist room to scale capacity in step with rising demand from Western armed forces.

A first sale for the company's new product generation added to the run of good news. According to media reports, DroneShield booked its inaugural order for RfRecon, an AI-powered reconnaissance device, from an existing Western European military customer. Delivery is slated for completion by the end of 2026. Industry observers read the deal as validation of the company's evolving sensor portfolio.

New CFO Brings Three Decades of Experience

Leadership is changing hands as the growth phase approaches. DroneShield named Rebecca Lowde as its next Chief Financial Officer, effective 2 November 2026. She succeeds Carla Balanco, who departs after more than eight years with the company.

Lowde's résumé spans three decades and includes both chief executive and senior finance roles — a background the company expects to lean on as it scales its global operations. Her track record features significant corporate transactions; at software firm MYOB she oversaw debt refinancing and growth in operating earnings.

With a filled order book, broader research capabilities and a seasoned finance chief in place, DroneShield is positioning itself for the expansion it has promised. Whether it can convert those locked-in contracts into profitable earnings is the question the coming quarters will answer.
