Energy Fuels closed out its third quarter with a headline net loss of US$52.4 million, but the number that matters for its balance sheet is smaller and far less alarming. Of that figure, US$35.3 million came from non-cash, unrealized valuation losses on the company's securities portfolio — an accounting mark rather than money leaving the business. Revenue for the quarter landed at US$29.2 million.

Strip out the paper charge and the picture shifts. As of September 30, Energy Fuels reported net working capital of US$932.3 million, a cushion that underpins an unusually broad set of ambitions: uranium mining, heavy rare earth processing facilities, and a pending acquisition of Vacuumschmelze (VAC) that management expects to close in early 2027.

Wainwright Trims Its Number, Keeps Its Rating

H.C. Wainwright cut its price target on the stock Thursday to US$22.50 from US$29.25, according to media reports. Analyst Heiko F. Ihle stayed with a Buy recommendation despite the lower figure. The shares had added 2.1% in the prior session, though no link between that move and the company's deal announcements has been established.

The uranium segment, for its part, has now posted three consecutive profitable quarters, according to the company.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Energy Fuels?

What the Mine Actually Delivered

Operational numbers give a firmer read on execution than the project pipeline does. Energy Fuels sold 320,000 pounds of uranium oxide in the third quarter at a weighted average price of US$88.90 per pound. Production came to 385,000 pounds of contained uranium oxide in the quarter and 1.1 million pounds year-to-date. The next conventional processing run was scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026.

Those figures form a practical yardstick: mining and milling have to work in tandem for the wider expansion story to carry weight. Actual sales volumes and realized prices make progress tangible in a way that the sheer size of the project portfolio cannot.

Rare Earths: Approved, but Still Ahead of Schedule

At the White Mesa Mill, Energy Fuels reported Wednesday that construction of commercial processing circuits has been approved. Commissioning for dysprosium and terbium is expected in early 2028, with additional circuits to follow later that same year. The added capacity remains a future prospect, and the timeline belongs in any assessment of the stock until construction and start-up go as planned.

Australia: A Completed Deal and One Still Pending

The ASM acquisition was completed and announced on Wednesday. The VAC takeover, by contrast, remains subject to required regulatory approvals and other closing conditions.

For the first phase of the Donald project, Energy Fuels has lined up conditional funding commitments from Export Finance Australia and Australia's National Reconstruction Fund Corporation. The package covers up to A$180 million within a proposed A$200 million senior project financing. Those commitments remain subject to caveats — contract documentation, due diligence, additional loans from commercial lenders, and further approvals — so the government backing is not yet an unconditionally secured financing for the project. Energy Fuels also said it is working toward a 49% stake in the project joint venture, where Astron Limited is its partner. A final investment decision on Donald is targeted by the end of 2026, with the October conditional commitments providing an important framework if the conditions are met.

In a separate governance move, the company appointed Jeffrey Olsen to its board on Wednesday. He will also serve on the audit committee as its financial expert.

The Test That Matters

Energy Fuels is best judged as a sequence of concrete execution steps. The financial firepower is an argument in its favor only if it turns into operational progress — how much of the planned business actually reaches running operations. Processing the uranium it mines, closing the conditional acquisition, and delivering the expansion projects are the points where the broader commodities vision has to prove itself.
