Evotec Keeps RBC's Outperform Rating but Loses Half Its Price Target
Published on 10/31/2026 at 06:51 | Editorial boerse-global.deRBC Capital Markets has cut its price target on Evotec in half while leaving its rating untouched — a split verdict that tells investors more about the stock's risk profile than the headline "Outperform" suggests. The target came down from EUR 10 to EUR 5, and the analysts paired it with a "Speculative Risk" designation, flagging elevated investment risk. News of the move emerged yesterday.
The distinction matters. A positive recommendation no longer implies an unchanged valuation, and it certainly doesn't imply low uncertainty. Anyone reading only the rating misses the downward revision; anyone focused solely on the halved target overlooks the fact that RBC declined to shift to a neutral or negative stance.
A Drop That RBC Didn't Cause
Evotec shares fell 3.8% on the same trading day, closing at EUR 2.80. No causal link between the reassessment and the decline has been established, and the two should not be read as cause and effect.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Evotec?
Voting Rights: Reading the Fine Print
Alongside the analyst action, Evotec published an updated total of 177,948,497 voting rights on Wednesday. The company cited October 20 as the effective date of its conditional capital increase and said no multiple voting rights exist.
The shareholder notifications that accompanied the update require careful parsing. A reported total position cannot simply be read as direct stock ownership of that size, because holdings held outright must be separated from positions built through instruments. Goldman Sachs reported a total position of 13.51% of voting rights on Wednesday — of which just 0.09% was in shares and 13.41% in instruments. The weight of that disclosure sits squarely on the instrument side.
November 5 Is the Next Real Test
Evotec confirmed on Thursday that it will publish results for the first nine months of 2026 on November 5, with a business report call scheduled for 14:00 CET. That date gives investors their next chance to weigh the more cautious valuation against fresh company figures. The announcement itself contains no new operating results, so treating it as either confirmation or refutation of RBC's view would be premature.
Until then, the analyst move stands as a deliberately bounded statement: RBC remains constructive on the stock, but only alongside a sharply reduced target and an explicit risk warning. The positive rating, on its own, is not an unqualified signal of confidence.
