Evotec's Recovery Case Rests on 2028 — and a November Date That Has to Back It Up
Published on 11/02/2026 at 20:10 | Editorial boerse-global.deRBC analyst Charles Weston is looking past Evotec's current losses toward a recovery he expects to gather pace in 2027 and culminate in meaningful profitability in 2028. The market's immediate verdict on that thesis was decidedly less generous: the brokerage slashed its price target to EUR 5 from EUR 10 on Friday, even as it kept its "Outperform" rating and flagged the stock as speculative.
That combination — a bullish call paired with a halved target and an explicit risk warning — frames the central tension for investors. Weston's longer-range optimism is a set of forecasts, not a company outlook and certainly not reported results. The gap between now and 2028 is the whole investment case, and it is a wide one.
The starting point is a shrinking top line
The operating backdrop is anything but comfortable. In the second quarter of 2026, Evotec's revenue fell 16.21% year on year to EUR 143.48 million, down from EUR 171.24 million in the same period a year earlier. Losses per share widened over the same stretch, to EUR 0.26 from EUR 0.24.
Consensus does not anticipate a swift return to profit, either. Analysts project a full-year 2026 loss of EUR 1.394 per share — again, an estimate rather than a reported figure.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Evotec?
A positive rating describes an expectation about what comes next. It is not evidence that the business has already turned. For Evotec, the published numbers have to be the yardstick against which any recovery is measured, and so far they show revenue under pressure and per-share losses moving in the wrong direction.
Preliminary figures show losses persisting on an adjusted basis
Roughly three weeks ago, Evotec reported preliminary group revenue of about EUR 465.0 million and an adjusted group EBITDA of around EUR -42.8 million. Management stood by its full-year guidance, which calls for revenue of approximately EUR 570 to 610 million and adjusted EBITDA of roughly EUR -70 to -105 million.
The company attributed the divergence between its preliminary results and market expectations largely to the timing of consensus estimates. A more favorable read against forecasts, however, is not the same thing as reaching profitability — a distinction that matters a great deal when weighing the recovery story.
Evotec at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
November 5 is the next real test
Evotec has scheduled publication of its results for the first nine months of 2026 for November 5, alongside a conference call with a business update. That date is the next concrete opportunity to set operating performance against the analyst community's longer-term expectations.
Until then, a turn in the business remains a forecast rather than a fact established by the numbers reported so far. What investors will be watching is whether revenue and earnings after a weak second quarter begin to stabilize — and whether that stabilization is sturdy enough to support a profit outlook still two years out. The Outperform rating alone will not answer that question.
