Evotec has scaled back its long-range revenue vision, telling investors on Thursday that it now targets roughly €1 billion in sales by 2030 — down from the "more than €1 billion" it had previously held out. The revision landed alongside third-quarter results and a confirmed outlook for the current year, and it frames the central question facing shareholders: whether a leaner, cost-conscious Evotec can convert a near-breakeven quarter into a durable recovery.

The quarterly picture offered something for both camps. Revenue for the three months to September 2026 came in at €164.9 million, while adjusted group EBITDA narrowed to minus €1.6 million — a marked improvement on the minus €15 million posted a year earlier. Over the full nine months, however, sales of €465.0 million carried an adjusted EBITDA loss of €44.3 million, wider than the minus €16.9 million recorded in the same stretch of 2025. The gap between the two periods is the crux: one strong quarter has yet to offset a heavy first half.

Guidance for 2026 was reaffirmed. Management continues to expect revenue of €570–610 million and an adjusted EBITDA loss of between €105 million and €70 million. The longer-dated margin targets were left untouched as well — a 20% adjusted EBITDA margin by the end of 2028, rising above 20% by the end of 2030.

Horizon Runs Ahead of Plan

Supporting those ambitions is the Horizon efficiency programme, which Evotec said is being implemented faster than originally scheduled. By the end of September, more than 20% of the planned €75 million improvement to the cost base had already been realised. That progress matters for a company whose balance sheet has been strained by persistent losses, and it gives management room to manoeuvre through the restructuring.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Evotec?

The liquidity position underlines the point. Evotec held €401 million at the close of the third quarter of 2026, a buffer whose importance grows for as long as losses continue. How quickly the company stabilises earnings will determine how far that cushion stretches.

Vertex Taps Redmond for Povetacicept

On the commercial side, Evotec confirmed that Vertex Pharmaceuticals has selected Just – Evotec Biologics' Redmond facility for the commercial manufacturing of povetacicept. The mandate is a vote of confidence in the site, though its financial weight will depend on scale and the revenue it ultimately generates — terms that remain unconfirmed. Recurring income from the contract could bolster the outlook if it materialises.

The segment split shows why manufacturing carries such weight. JEB revenue climbed 9.4% in the third quarter to €44.8 million, while the D&PD division saw sales slip 2.3%. Whether the production business can offset weakness elsewhere is now a key test for the group's stabilisation.

Analysts Stay on the Sidelines

Deutsche Bank Research kept Evotec at "Hold" with a €3.50 price target on Friday, the same day the shares rose 4.0%. No specific trigger for the daily gain was identified in company announcements. Berenberg also maintained "Hold" but lifted its target to €3.75 from €3.60, with analyst Christian Ehmann calling the third quarter solid and the longer-term goals ambitious.

That cautious stance fits the transitional picture. The smaller quarterly loss points to progress if Evotec can build on it; the wider nine-month deficit argues against calling a recovery already secured. For investors, the case rests on sustained earnings improvement and dependable revenue from the manufacturing business — with a lowered 2030 bar now setting the benchmark.
