The motorway was initially closed in both directions to allow emergency services to manage the scene. The southbound carriageway reopened at 8:01 a.m., but the northbound section remained shut throughout the morning.
Highways authorities indicated the northbound closure would likely continue into Monday afternoon for investigation and recovery operations. At the height of the disruption, motorists faced tailbacks of approximately three miles and delays of at least 30 minutes, with traffic diverted via the A500.
Previous Fatal Collision Conviction

Daniel Barlow, 30, was convicted of causing death by dangerous driving in relation to a December 2, 2022, crash that killed 19-year-old Chloe Williams. Investigations revealed that Barlow was traveling at 55 mph and failed to apply his brakes until a fraction of a second before impact. He is scheduled to be sentenced on September 25.
