FP Digital is rebuilding its signature platform FP Sign around a new sequencer that lets users assign individual recipients, roles, signing orders and different signature levels to each document inside a single transaction. The updated product is scheduled to go live on 03.11.2027.

One request, many documents

The sequencer handles review and signing steps that run either in parallel or one after another. According to FP Digital, documents can carry either an advanced electronic signature (FES) or a qualified electronic signature (QES). Managing director Jonas Zweyrohn said multi-stage processes can be bundled into a single request through drag-and-drop operation, an approach intended to cut down on shadow processes inside organisations.

Beyond the sequencer, the relaunch brings a redesigned user interface, a mobile view and a detailed audit trail for end-to-end tracking of transactions. Access is handled through passkey methods as well as interfaces for single sign-on (SSO) and application programming interfaces (API). Internal departmental structures can also be mapped in the application.

Built for German compliance rules

Compliance requirements carry particular weight when digital signatures are used in HR and contract work. FP Sign is eIDAS-compliant, the provider says, and holds a C5 attestation from the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI). Both software development and platform hosting take place entirely in Germany.

Audit-proof processes matter in the regulatory sphere too: under German law, business and contract documents are subject to retention periods of six years under commercial law and ten years for specific document categories. A comparative study of signature platforms found that criteria such as independence from time stamps, jurisdictional coverage and long-term storage weigh heavily in software decisions.

The cost of loose contract practices

Expanding workflow controls speaks to gaps in existing corporate processes. Estimates from the organisation World Commerce & Contracting put average losses from inadequate contract practices at around 9% of annual revenue.

Companies are responding by putting more into consolidating digital signature and document chains, aiming to reduce manual handoffs and legal risk when agreements are concluded.
