Heidelberger Druckmaschinen used the second day of its SHIFT 2026 customer gathering at the Print Media Center in Wiesloch-Walldorf to give the public its first live look at Prinect Touch Free, a software package built to route print jobs through production without any manual intervention. The two-day industry meeting, which opened yesterday in Heidelberg, centers on process digitalization, robotics, artificial intelligence and hybrid manufacturing workflows.

The demonstration underscores a broader push by the press manufacturer to wire up pressrooms end to end. Alongside pure software plays, Heidelberg is advancing hybrid production models that marry conventional offset printing with modern digital technology. Interest in industrial digital solutions is picking up in Eastern Europe in particular — Austrian printer Klampfer Druck, for instance, is using a Jetfire 50 digital press system to strengthen its market position.

Istanbul software rollout and a pharma logistics tie-up

Heidelberg's software offensive extends beyond its home showcase. Turkish packaging and label printer Sade Ofset is integrating Prinect into its operations, deploying the system across prepress, the actual print run and overarching production planning. For the Turkish business, the switch touches core stages of manufacturing, with Prinect acting as a digital interface that meshes individual work steps — from preparation through to control of live production — more tightly together.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Heidelberger Druckmaschinen?

That installation complements another agreement in the industrial packaging arena. On 30 September, Heidelberger Druckmaschinen and the pfenning Group struck a partnership for integrated solutions in pharmaceutical packaging production, aiming to fuse industrial manufacturing, packaging and downstream logistics into a single continuous process. Neither partner disclosed financial terms of the arrangement.

Gallus prepares an orderly leadership handover

Running alongside these operational projects are personnel moves at subsidiary Gallus Group. Dario Urbinati is set to step down as CEO on 1 November 2026 and take the role of president of the administrative board of Gallus Ferd. Rüesch AG from 1 January 2027. Until a permanent successor is named, finance chief Michael Bsirske will serve as interim chief executive, while Uwe Boerner oversees worldwide sales for the company.

Shares stay under pressure ahead of half-year figures

None of the commercial and technological maneuvering has yet lifted the stock. In pre-market trading on Wednesday the share stood at 1.40 euros, and during the session it slipped 1.3 percent to 1.39 euros, extending the softer trend of recent months. Since the start of the year, the decline amounts to 31 percent.

Investors will get a clearer read on the business impact of current market conditions next month. According to the financial calendar, Heidelberger Druckmaschinen will publish its figures for the second quarter and the full first half of the 2026/2027 fiscal year on 12 November.
