Heidelberg Druck Puts Production Control at the Center of Its Software Story

Heidelberg gave a first live demo of Prinect Touch Free at SHIFT 2026, as manroland sheetfed service integration proceeds and half-year figures are due November 12.

Heidelberger Druckmaschinen used this week's SHIFT 2026 industry gathering to give the public its first live look at Prinect Touch Free, a system the company says handles large volumes of print jobs on a fully automated basis. The demonstration, staged Wednesday at the Print Media Center in Wiesloch-Walldorf, followed the event's Tuesday opening in Heidelberg and formed part of a broader program covering digitalization, automation and hybrid print production.

The pitch behind the software is straightforward: rather than showcasing individual presses, Heidelberg is putting the processing of orders front and center. Prinect Touch Free addresses the decision of which machine should take on a given print job — a step that sits between the incoming order and its execution. Heidelberg describes the economic allocation of jobs to the most cost-effective production machine as the concrete benefit of the application.

A Customer Case That Shows Prinect in Action

A separate deployment illustrates how the company envisions connected production. Turkish packaging and label printer Sade Ofset Packaging & Label has integrated Prinect as its digital production backbone, linking prepress, printing and production planning. That integration, reported on October 5, covers several interconnected work areas rather than a single stage of the process.

The two developments belong to the same theme but are distinct events. Sade Ofset's setup demonstrates Prinect in day-to-day production; the live premiere points to the more ambitious goal of fully automated job handling. Nothing in the Sade Ofset case suggests the company also runs Prinect Touch Free.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Heidelberger Druckmaschinen?

That distinction matters for anyone assessing the equity. An existing customer installation can illustrate the practical value of the software, while whether a new solution generates additional demand will only become clear through further customer decisions. A product demonstration is not the same as an order or a financial result.

Service Integration Runs on Its Own Track

Alongside the software work, Heidelberg is folding the service and consumables business of the acquired manroland sheetfed into its own structures. The company said on October 5 that the integration is proceeding according to plan, with key implementation steps due to be completed over the next 18 months. Print and publishing house Zarbock is cited as a customer example, receiving comprehensive press service as part of the arrangement.

Because the integration is not yet finished, the announced timeline makes it a longer-term undertaking. For investors, that means the expansion of the offering and its absorption into Heidelberg's own operations deserve attention in equal measure.

November 12 Becomes the Financial Reference Point

The next hard checkpoint on the calendar is the release of half-year figures for fiscal year 2026/2027, scheduled for November 12, 2026. That date will give the first financial read on operating performance to set against the product and integration news.

Until then, the economic allocation of print jobs and the on-schedule integration progress serve as tangible operational markers — they describe what the company is working on. Whether that translates into stronger financial results is a question only the business numbers can answer.
