IBM shares slipped 0.1% on Friday, extending a decline that began Thursday when a broad selloff in technology stocks — led by AI-related names — dragged the sector lower. Media reports linked the drop to wider market weakness rather than any IBM-specific development.

A Quantum System Two Takes Up Residence in Hyde Park

The company's headline event of the week was the unveiling of a working quantum computer in Chicago, presented alongside the University of Chicago, the State of Illinois and the Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park. The IBM Quantum System Two is already operational at the Hyde Park Labs site and runs on IBM's Quantum-Nighthawk processor, which carries 120 qubits. IBM describes it as its first quantum computer in Illinois.

The machine is slated to serve as the anchor of the National Quantum Algorithm Center once the Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park is completed, at which point it will relocate there. For now, the partners are pairing live operation at the current location with the planned move into the park.

Evercore ISI Reaffirms Outperform, $275 Target

On the valuation front, Evercore ISI reiterated its "Outperform" rating and a $275.00 price target, according to media reports. The research house based its call on a sum-of-the-parts assessment of IBM's individual business units. The confirmation came as the stock edged down 0.1% in Friday trading.

US Open Partnership Extended Through 2031

IBM and the United States Tennis Association also extended their partnership by five years on October 28, keeping IBM as the official AI and cloud partner of the US Open through 2031. The company reported more than 270 million interactions across the tournament's website and app combined during the 2026 event.

Cloud and Agent Tooling Goes Generally Available

Tuesday brought a separate product announcement: general availability of Agent Identity in watsonx Orchestrate and of the IBM Cloud Migration Hub. IBM also introduced IBM Cloud Secrets Manager Vault Dedicated, built on HashiCorp Vault Enterprise.
