Infineon Builds Out AI and Robotics Pipeline While Rate Fears Weigh on Chip Stocks
Published on 10/26/2026 at 06:10 | Editorial boerse-global.deInfineon shares closed Friday at €48.55, down 2.7%, as a broad retreat from AI-linked equities swept through European technology names. The decline had nothing to do with company-specific news. Instead, reports attributed the drop to a global selloff across the semiconductor sector, with investors questioning whether the massive sums being poured into artificial intelligence will pay off quickly enough. Rising interest rates, according to media reports, sharpened those doubts about short-term returns. The lack of fresh buying interest following the Nasdaq's slide kept pressure on the stock through the session.
Four Partners, One Lab, No Equity Taken
While the market debated AI's economics, Infineon pressed ahead on the corporate front. Together with Microsoft, NVIDIA and UnternehmerTUM Accelerator, the chipmaker launched the "Physical AI Growth Lab" on Thursday, aimed at European start-ups working in physical AI, robotics and industrial AI. Participation is free of charge and, according to Infineon, requires no equity stake from founders. The program runs from January through April 2027.
The NVIDIA relationship extends well beyond start-up support. The two companies are jointly developing GaN-based power conversion systems for AI data centers, with Infineon deepening the collaboration around 800-volt direct-current architectures. That work puts Infineon squarely in the power-supply chain for the computing buildout driving the very sector sentiment that hurt its shares on Friday.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Infineon?
Robotics Challenge Draws a Crowd
Infineon's push into humanoid robotics came into focus on October 19, when the company named the winners of its Startup Challenge 2026. More than 100 start-ups from 29 countries entered the competition. AdapTronics took first place with a gripping technology, COSMOKE finished second and TECHiFAB placed third.
On the supply side, Infineon and Wolfspeed signed a multi-year agreement on October 15 covering silicon carbide wafers with a 200-millimeter diameter. The deal is designed to support the shift of SiC production from 150mm to 200mm and to broaden procurement, strengthening supply-chain resilience as demand for power semiconductors grows.
What to Watch
Two dates now anchor the calendar. Infineon's Automotive Microcontroller PDH Conference is set for October 28, 2026, focusing on microcontrollers for the automotive sector. Then, on November 10, the company will publish results for the fourth quarter and for fiscal year 2025/26, giving investors their first full accounting of a year spent laying groundwork in AI power delivery, robotics and wafer supply.
