Infineon has signed a technology agreement with Qualcomm Technologies covering the development of vehicle computers for automated driving and digital cockpits. Under the arrangement, the partners intend to build a microcontroller-based subsystem for Qualcomm's Snapdragon Ride reference platforms, the German chipmaker said.

The Qualcomm tie-up sits alongside a broader push into power electronics. On 27 October, Infineon brought its LinearFET MOSFET technology to market for power distribution in electric vehicles and software-defined cars. The design bundles current sharing, inrush current limiting and short-circuit robustness into a single solution, aimed at semiconductor-based power distribution on board.

Data Centre Deals Stack Up

Two days earlier, Infineon disclosed a collaboration with Enphase Energy. The US partner plans to use Infineon's monolithic bidirectional GaN switches, rated at 900 V, in power supply modules for solid-state transformers serving AI data centres. Infineon is contributing the component technology and engineering know-how, while Enphase takes charge of developing and demonstrating the system.

Roughly two weeks ago, Infineon and NVIDIA also announced an extension of their work on GaN-based power conversion systems, destined for 800 V DC architectures in AI data centres. A high-voltage DC-link converter forms the centrepiece of that effort.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Infineon?

Manufacturing capacity is being scaled to match. Just over a week ago, Infineon unveiled investment plans at its Villach site, where around EUR 1.1 billion will flow into existing cleanroom space through 2034. According to the company, the site is slated to host the world's first high-volume production of these power semiconductors on 300 mm wafers, with output due to begin by the end of 2027. Funding announced under the European Chips Act amounts to EUR 319 million.

Warstein Campus Expands

On Wednesday, Infineon opened a new laboratory, development and office building in Warstein. According to WDR, the complex spans around 10,000 square metres, including a 1,200 square metre lab, with the investment reported to sit in the mid double-digit millions of euros. Around 350 employees are moving into the building.

Alongside its hardware work, Infineon launched the Physical AI Growth Lab on 22 October together with UnternehmerTUM Accelerator, Microsoft and NVIDIA. The equity-free support programme targets start-ups in physical AI, robotics and industrial AI, and is set to run from January to April 2027.

Sector Backdrop Stays Uneven

The flurry of announcements comes against a mixed trading environment for chip stocks. Media reports pointed to Friday weakness in European semiconductor shares, driven by concerns over the cost of AI build-outs and a soft outlook from Intel. Infineon's stock rose 2.4% on Monday, though no link to a specific company announcement has been established.

Investors will get their next set of hard numbers on 10 November 2026, when Infineon publishes results for the fourth quarter and the 2026 financial year, with a presentation scheduled for the same day. The company calendar lists the date as provisional.
