Infineon Expands NVIDIA GaN Tie-Up as Broker Price Targets Diverge by 40 EUR
Published on 10/21/2026 at 19:50 | Editorial boerse-global.deInfineon shares climbed 2.6% on Monday, lifted by a brighter mood across European technology names, where positive signals around SpaceX and Super Micro Computer helped set the tone. Alongside that sector-wide tailwind, the chipmaker delivered a company-specific announcement: an expanded collaboration with NVIDIA covering 800-volt direct-current architectures for AI data centers.
Investors should keep the two drivers apart. The sector sentiment reported by dpa explains the backdrop to the share move, while the NVIDIA news adds a concrete link to the build-out of AI infrastructure. What the day's gain owes to the partnership itself cannot be quantified from either.
Gallium Nitride at the Heart of the NVIDIA Work
Under the expanded arrangement, Infineon's gallium nitride technology is slated for use in high-voltage intermediate circuit converters. That gives the announcement a defined application within data-center power supply rather than a generic nod to the AI trend — the company names both its partner and the intended use of its technology.
The wording matters: this is a planned technology deployment, a concrete approach to future use, and not the same as revenue already booked from those applications. For now, the technological cooperation is the substance of the news.
A second building block landed roughly a week earlier, when Infineon and Wolfspeed agreed multi-year supplies of silicon carbide wafers, shifting their existing relationship from 150-mm to 200-mm substrates. The two items operate on different levels — one secures substrate supply, the other maps out where the technology will be deployed — and together they offer firmer operational grounding than general hopes for a friendlier tech sector.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Infineon?
Two Buy Calls, Two Opposite Directions
Monday also brought diverging moves from two research houses. Aletheia Capital Limited raised its price target to 100 EUR from 90 EUR, according to media reports, while reaffirming its buy rating. TD Cowen went the other way, cutting its target to 60 EUR from 72 EUR and likewise keeping its buy recommendation.
The shared "buy" label should not obscure a 40 EUR gap between the two targets. A matching recommendation here does not signal a matching valuation, and neither a common assessment nor a unified expectation for the next earnings release can be inferred from it. Investors need to weigh each target on its own merits.
Microcontrollers Already Available
On the product side, Infineon announced an extension of its PSOC-Control-C3 family. The PSC3M/P6 microcontrollers target motor control and power conversion applications, supporting up to four brushless DC motors, and the company describes them as available.
That status is the key detail: the parts were not merely unveiled but declared available, a concrete operational step. Putting a financial figure on their contribution would be a different claim altogether. The rollout also feeds into the themes Infineon intends to showcase at its scheduled trade-fair appearance, where the focus reaches beyond individual microcontrollers.
November 10 Looms Large
Infineon said on October 14 that it will exhibit at electronica in Munich from November 10 to 13, presenting solutions for AI infrastructure, robotics and mobility. The fair will put the company's technological direction on display; the earnings release offers a different lens, one trained on the business itself.
That release, covering the fourth quarter and fiscal year 2026, is due on November 10 — the same day the trade show opens. For assessing the opposing target changes, the figures will matter more than the shared buy tag: fresh business numbers will then sit alongside the analysts' divided expectations. Until then, neither the NVIDIA cooperation nor Monday's share reaction should be mistaken for a proven earnings contribution.
