Infineon Piles Up Design Wins While the Market Frets Over AI Spending
Published on 11/06/2026 at 20:01 | Editorial boerse-global.deA busy stretch of partnership announcements has done little to insulate Infineon from the wider mood in semiconductors. The German chipmaker's shares fell 8.5% on Tuesday, according to Reuters, as investors unloaded chip stocks on worries about the pace of AI data-centre buildouts. Weak Qualcomm results added to the gloom, and there were lingering concerns that investment could hit hurdles following the US midterm elections. The stock recovered some ground on Wednesday, gaining 1.3% in the primary report, with a separate tally putting the rebound at 1.9%.
Three deals in three days
Infineon has spent the week stitching together agreements across its end markets. The most recent, signed on Wednesday, is a three-year strategic supply arrangement with Vertiv covering silicon and silicon-carbide power semiconductors, including use in 800V DC power systems. Vertiv is the buyer under the deal; neither company disclosed financial terms.
A day earlier, Infineon and SOLUM put pen to paper on a memorandum of understanding to deepen technical cooperation on high-voltage DC solutions for AI data centres. The scope covers interleaved converters, battery backup units and server power supplies, with Infineon supplying semiconductor technologies, reference designs and technical support.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Infineon?
The data-centre activity follows Monday's agreement with Qualcomm Technologies, which will see an Infineon microcontroller subsystem integrated into Qualcomm's Snapdragon Ride reference platforms for automotive computers and digital cockpits. On the product side, Infineon also launched its OptiMOS-7 40V MOSFET family on Tuesday, aimed at AI servers, data centres and telecoms infrastructure. And on Wednesday the company unveiled the AURIX-RC1, its first microcontroller platform built on the open RISC-V instruction set architecture. Samples are slated for the first half of 2027, leaving a development step between the platform's debut and silicon reaching customers.
JPMorgan stays bullish into the numbers
Ahead of the earnings release, JPMorgan reaffirmed its "Overweight" rating and EUR 96 price target on Wednesday. Analyst Sandeep Deshpande expects Infineon's 2027 targets to come in somewhat above consensus. Given the company's habit of guiding conservatively, he sees room for upgrades over the course of the year — a view that hinges on the guidance Infineon has yet to publish.
That guidance will land on November 10, when Infineon reports fourth-quarter and full-year 2026 results.
