Infineon's shares fell 4.5% and closed at EUR 50.87, caught in a broad global selloff of chip and technology stocks after Intel's disappointing guidance rattled investors. The drop came on the same day two Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. voting rights notifications surfaced, adding a layer of ownership news to an otherwise turbulent session for the German chipmaker.

Goldman Sachs Threshold Notifications

The notification published Wednesday reported a threshold being crossed on October 21, with Goldman Sachs citing the acquisition or disposal of financial instruments as the reason. A second notification, released Tuesday, disclosed a threshold crossing on October 20 — also tied to the purchase or sale of financial instruments. Neither filing indicated a directional bet on Infineon's prospects; both were triggered by movements in derivative positions rather than plain share purchases.

Intel's Forecast Sets the Tone

The broader market mood was shaped by Intel, which according to Reuters guided for fourth-quarter revenue of between USD 15 billion and USD 16 billion, falling short of market expectations. That outlook, the report said, sparked the worldwide selloff in chip stocks. Reuters also pointed to persistent weakness in the PC market, noting that results from Intel and Amazon deepened concerns about the hefty investments being poured into artificial intelligence.

EUR 1.1 Billion for Villach

On the corporate side, Infineon announced on Tuesday that it would invest roughly EUR 1.1 billion in existing cleanroom capacity at its Villach site through 2034. The company said the facility is intended to host Europe's first large-scale production of GaN power semiconductors on 300-millimeter wafers, with production slated to begin by the end of 2027.

New Reference Designs for AI Power

Infineon also unveiled new reference designs for powering AI applications. Among them is a 5.6-kW M-CRPS reference design for enterprise servers and AI applications at the network edge, which the company says achieves peak efficiency of 98+ percent. The design addresses power supply for both servers and applications outside centralized data centers. Alongside it, Infineon presented a high-voltage power distribution board as a reference design for AI data center power architectures.

For vehicles, the company introduced LinearFET, a MOSFET technology for power distribution systems in electric and software-defined vehicles. The announcements landed as the stock market was questioning the economics of AI investment — a contrast between technical infrastructure and investor sentiment.

Enphase Supply Deal and Results Date

Separately, Infineon said it will supply Enphase Energy with monolithic bidirectional 900-volt GaN switches, which the company describes as the world's first switches of their kind. The announcement outlines a future supply relationship with Enphase.
