Infineon's AI Power Push: SOLUM Pact, OptiMOS-7 Rollout and a €1.1 Billion GaN Fab
Published on 11/07/2026 at 15:32 | Editorial boerse-global.deInfineon has packed the past week with product launches, partnership announcements and a major manufacturing commitment, even as broader semiconductor sentiment continued to weigh on its share price. The Munich-based chipmaker signed a letter of intent with SOLUM on Thursday to extend their collaboration on HVDC power supply solutions for AI data centres. The planned expansion covers intermediate bus converters, battery backup units and power supplies.
That agreement came two days after Infineon brought its OptiMOS-7 portfolio of 40V power MOSFETs to market. According to the company, the components target AI servers, data centres and telecommunications infrastructure and are designed for high-frequency DC-DC conversion. The family is already available and in series production.
Automotive Design Wins and a New MCU Family
Infineon's automotive ambitions advanced in parallel. On Monday the company agreed a microcontroller-based design with Qualcomm Technologies for its Snapdragon Ride reference platforms, aimed at high-performance computing and AI in vehicles. A second vehicle-focused announcement followed on Wednesday, when Infineon unveiled the AURIX RC1 family for real-time processing and control in software-defined vehicles and physical AI applications. Samples are planned for the first half of 2027.
Manufacturing capacity is also being scaled. On 27 October Infineon announced a European high-volume production line for GaN power semiconductors on 300mm wafers, with media reports putting the investment at around EUR 1.1 billion.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Infineon?
Market Headwinds Override the News Flow
The flurry of corporate announcements failed to prevent a share price decline on Thursday. According to media reports, weak Qualcomm figures and concerns about tighter rules for AI data centres weighed on chip stocks. The automotive business reportedly remained a key revenue driver for Infineon.
The stock stabilised somewhat yesterday. dpa-AFX attributed the preceding sell-off to global losses in AI and semiconductor shares originating from US technology stocks, with worries about possible stricter AI regulation after the US midterm elections adding further pressure on the sector. Infineon shares rose 1.8% yesterday to EUR 45.85, recovering part of the setback.
Jefferies Sticks to Its Bull Case
Jefferies reaffirmed its buy rating on Infineon on Monday with a price target of EUR 96. The research house pointed to investment by major cloud and data centre operators and positive commentary from the industry. It also viewed Monolithic Power's higher growth expectations as a positive signal for Infineon.
