Infineon's AI Power Stack Takes Shape as Rate Jitters Clip the Stock

Infineon fell 8.7% over seven days to EUR 59.01 on macro pressure, even as it unveiled a 27-kW AI server power supply and kept two Buy ratings.

Bond yields are doing to European chip names what they did to growth stocks all year: draining momentum without touching the underlying business. Infineon felt that pull last week, sliding at one point to the bottom of the DAX on Thursday, according to dpa-AFX. A 1.0% rebound on Friday softened the blow, but the seven-day tally still showed a decline of 8.7%, leaving the shares at EUR 59.01.

Nothing company-specific drove the retreat. Macro conditions and profit-taking across European equity markets did the work, with softer US labor data providing only a brief tailwind before rate concerns reasserted themselves. The stock simply moved with its sector.

A 27-Kilowatt Answer to AI's Power Hunger

While the tape was unkind, the product pipeline was not idle. On Thursday, Infineon unveiled a 27-kilowatt three-phase power supply built specifically for the punishing demands of AI servers. The reference design meets the OCP Open Rack V3 specification and will be showcased at the OCP Global Summit from Monday through October 15.

The logic behind the launch is straightforward: AI workloads keep packing more compute into every rack, and power delivery has to keep pace. By leaning on advanced power semiconductors, Infineon aims to lift efficiency and cut the energy losses that accumulate across large server farms.

That announcement slots neatly into a broader data-center push. Roughly a week ago, the company closed its acquisition of Bengaluru-based C2i Semiconductors, a developer of software-defined multiphase controllers and intelligent power stages for AI data centers. The Indian team has now joined Infineon's Power Systems Division, where its expertise is meant to complement the group's existing power-supply capabilities. The new 27-kilowatt design effectively marries Infineon's own power components with architectures built around open data-center platform standards.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Infineon?

Thailand, Quantum Hardware and a Dashboard Chip

Manufacturing and future-facing technology got attention too. Infineon opened a new backend fabrication site in Samut Prakan near Bangkok, a facility that can be expanded in stages to as many as five modules and is expected to generate up to 1,000 highly skilled jobs.

On the quantum front, the company deepened its partnership with Swiss firm ZuriQ AG, which works on trapped-ion quantum hardware. The two had previously demonstrated an architecture with nine individually controllable ions.

Automotive customers received something as well. On Tuesday, Infineon introduced the TRAVEO T2G CYT4EN microcontroller for high-resolution instrument clusters and cockpit displays, available with immediate effect.

Two Buy Ratings, One Price Target Gap

Analysts remain unshaken by the recent turbulence. Barclays reaffirmed its "Buy" rating on Tuesday with a price target of EUR 90.00. Jefferies followed on September 30, maintaining "Buy" and setting its target at EUR 96, with analyst Janardan Menon pointing to sustained semiconductor demand and expressing particular confidence in fiscal 2027.

The stock's longer arc puts the recent dip in perspective. Friday's close of EUR 59.01 represents a gain of 56% over the past year, though the shares still trade 34% below their 52-week high of EUR 89.67.

What's Next on the Calendar

Infineon will host its own booth at the Open Compute Project Global Summit in San Jose from October 12 to 15. For investors, the date that matters most is November 10, when the company reports preliminary results for the quarter just ended.
