Infineon Sinks 6.2% as Intel's PC Warning Ripples Through Chip Sector
Published on 10/30/2026 at 20:20 | Editorial boerse-global.deInfineon shareholders took a hit on Wednesday, with the stock sliding 6.2% as a downbeat outlook from Intel triggered a broad sell-off across European semiconductor names. Reuters reported that Infineon was among the chipmakers caught in the global retreat, which was set in motion by Intel's warnings over softening PC demand and a weak forecast for the fourth quarter.
The pressure on the sector was compounded by Amazon's results and heavy spending on artificial intelligence, which soured sentiment toward technology stocks more generally. Reuters also pointed to rising memory costs as a drag on PC demand. For Infineon, the decline lands squarely in an already fragile environment for tech equities.
Product Offensive Targets AI Power Supply
Even as the stock stumbled, Infineon kept up a steady stream of announcements. The company said it will supply Enphase Energy with 900-volt GaN switches, which are destined for use in Enphase's solid-state transformer modules, including those serving AI data centers. The components are being folded into Enphase's product development, with production qualification still to follow.
Infineon also unveiled a reference design for a high-voltage power distribution board, aimed at evaluating ±400-volt and 800-volt power supply systems for AI data centers. The board is slated to become available in November 2026. For enterprise servers and edge AI, the company presented a 5.6-kW M-CRPS reference design.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Infineon?
On the automotive side, Infineon introduced LinearFET, a MOSFET technology for power distribution systems in electric and software-defined vehicles. It was joined by new OptiMOS 7 Automotive MOSFETs in a TOLL package and a high-voltage battery management reference design built around the AURIX TC4x microcontroller with a parallel processing unit.
Villach Fab Expansion Extends GaN Bet
Manufacturing is getting fresh capital too. Infineon plans to invest roughly EUR 1.1 billion at its Villach site through 2034, channeling the funds into existing cleanroom space to establish high-volume production of GaN power semiconductors. The plan calls for 300-millimeter wafers, with output scheduled to begin at the end of 2027.
The various initiatives sit at different stages: Villach involves building out production capacity, while the Enphase work has moved into product integration but still awaits production qualification.
Infineon at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
Investors will get their next look at the numbers on November 10, 2026, when Infineon reports results for the quarter ended September 30.
