ITM Power shareholders will get their first hard evidence next Monday that the company's austerity drive is translating into real numbers, when the British hydrogen specialist releases preliminary results for the fiscal year ended April 30, 2026. The October 19 disclosure has become the focal point for investors who have pushed the stock up 51% since the start of the year and who now want proof that the promised narrowing of operating losses has actually materialised.

The shares closed Friday at EUR 1.09, a gain of 2.1%, with no company-specific catalyst identified for the move. Market participants are instead positioning ahead of the earnings release.

Guidance Raised, Revenue Targets Untouched

Roughly two weeks ago, management lifted its outlook for adjusted EBITDA, guiding to a loss of between GBP 20 million and GBP 21 million for fiscal 2026. That marks a 27% improvement on the prior forecast and a 38% reduction year on year. Revenue and cash targets were left as they were.

The upgrade pointed to tighter spending discipline across the business. With the preliminary figures now imminent, attention turns to whether actual revenue and costs for the year bear out that narrative.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying ITM Power?

Hydropulse Signs Refinery Framework

On the strategic front, ITM Power's subsidiary Hydropulse signed a framework agreement on October 12 with an unnamed European oil refinery for a 150-megawatt green hydrogen project built on ITM Power's Alpha electrolyser platform. The contract is structured around a ten-year term.

Preparatory work for detailed execution planning is already under way. A final investment decision is targeted for 2027, with production scheduled to start in 2029. No binding large-scale order has been placed yet, since the project remains conditional on final contracts being signed. ITM Power has described the venture as potentially the largest commercial commitment in its history should those agreements become binding.

Equity Authorisation Trimmed Ahead of AGM

Ahead of the annual general meeting on October 30, 2026, ITM Power amended its convening documents on Friday, cutting the proposed authorised total nominal amount of new equity securities under resolution 11b from GBP 34,570,278 to GBP 23,046,852.

Separately, the depositary for CFO Amy Grey sold 111 ordinary shares at GBP 1.0053 each to cover account administration fees. According to ITM Power, the transaction took place without the finance chief's knowledge or instruction.

Analyst Stance and What Comes Next

Peel Hunt weighed in on the recent announcements, keeping its "Hold" rating on ITM Power as of October 8 with a price target of 92 pence.

Ahead of the results, investors are focused on remaining liquidity and the timeline for the development pipeline. Large refinery projects require multi-year preparation before they reach commissioning, meaning the path to meaningful revenue remains a long one. For a sustained re-rating, the company needs to demonstrate that operating losses have shrunk as promised — and Monday's preliminary figures should provide the first reliable data on that front.
