Lenovo shares came under heavy pressure as a gloomy industry outlook from Intel rippled across the PC sector, with the Chinese hardware maker's stock falling 8.3% in the latest session. Media reports linked the decline to the broader industry view rather than to any fresh company announcement, noting that Intel's warning of continued market weakness through at least the first half of 2027 also dragged down other PC-related equities.

Intel reportedly projected a further 10% market contraction for 2027. Reuters, meanwhile, described wider anxiety across the technology sector over whether the enormous sums being poured into artificial intelligence are generating adequate returns.

The selloff extended a rough stretch for Lenovo, which had already lost 6.8% in Hong Kong trading a day earlier as weak technology stocks and disappointing Alphabet results soured sentiment toward AI-linked names. Doubts about the payoff from hefty AI investments, together with softness in US PC and technology shares, were cited as the backdrop.

Short Interest Climbs as Citi Trims Its Target

Mounting bearish positioning added to the pressure. A media report on Thursday pointed to a rising tally of shorted Lenovo shares, which stood at 35.564 million on Wednesday, up from 27.178 million on October 22.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Lenovo?

Citi had already cut its price target on Lenovo on October 20, lowering it to HK$40 from HK$50. The brokerage flagged potential dilution from convertible bonds and warrants as the reason for the move, though it kept its buy rating on the stock.

Refinancing Plan Draws Scrutiny

Alongside the sector-wide headwinds, Lenovo's financing plans have drawn attention. Bloomberg reported on October 21, citing people familiar with the matter, that the company is seeking a US$2 billion loan with a five-year maturity. The facility is being marketed at a spread of 75 basis points over SOFR and would refinance an earlier credit facility, according to the report, which described a search for financing rather than a completed loan agreement. Lenovo and the coordinating banks named in the report declined to comment.

A report on October 22 attributed the share price decline at that time partly to the reported refinancing plan, the price target cut and the broader selloff in Hong Kong technology stocks.

AI Library Expansion Pitched on Cost Savings

Against that unsettled market backdrop, Lenovo pressed ahead with its enterprise AI push. On October 22 the company expanded its AI Library with validated use cases for businesses and research findings. According to Lenovo, organizations can reach measurable results from AI experiments up to 24 times faster than with custom-built implementations.

Lenovo at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

A Signal65 analysis commissioned by Lenovo put potential cost savings at up to 70% per token compared with hyperscaler API pricing, a figure that applies at full utilization. As a concrete example, Lenovo cited a European retail bank deploying its computer-vision technology for edge processing across 4,500 branches.

The company also announced on Wednesday that it had placed 18th on Forbes' list of the world's best companies for women for 2026. That followed its October 16 confirmation that it remains in the Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index Series, alongside a AAA sustainability rating from Hang Seng Indexes.
